Found a new 41 mag silhouette gun for $1000.  Is this a good or great deal.  I have a 22 silhouette gun and the barrel length doesn't bother me but will it on a 41 mag?  I am used to 5.5 inch barrels.

Long barrels can always be cut down by a competent gunsmith.  I've yet to find one who can do a decent job of stretching out a short barrel, however.

That is a great deal. I got my 41 mag silhouette at cost last year and it was $1250.

The barrel length is only a problem if you intend to carry it in a holster and draw it when you see game. I hunt with mine in my hand, hammer down. Then all I have to do is cock and fire. It works great for brush hunting and is 1000 times easier to carry than a scoped rifle.

I would say buy it and try it out for a while. You can always rebarrel it or cut it down later.

Heck you might even shoot a silhouette match or two, it is an excellent tool for that.

I love mine, I think you would too.

That is a good price but I would not buy a used silly gun without interviewing the owner toughly. How many rounds fired? Jacketed or cast? What power loads? I would also check the thiness of the rifling as well as the forcing cone for erosion. I would also check the chamber for erosion incase he shot a lot of lead and did not keep them clean.

Take Care,
Scott

If you don't want it, point me in the correct direction.  I would pick it up.  That is a great buy if it is the 10" silhouette model.
