I took it off to bed the action to the stock......now I'm trying to get it back together....there are groves in the front a rear of the receiver and lips on the front and back of the magazine box.......does it go in from the top or the bottom?  Any tricks to getting this back in?

It is inserted from the bottom of the action.  If this is a blind magazine rifle avoid trapping the bottom of the magazine spring between the box and the clearance in the stock..

Not really,,,they have to go in square..  They are a tight fit but not unduly... They are usually split and the split will have to be held tightly closed as the box is inserted.  Inserting the box should not be a major concern..  Is it giving trouble?  The spring and follower is inserted later.

It is split, but mine appears to be spot welded so the box is not flexable.........when I slide it in, the side of the box catches on the receiver and likes about 1/8 inch clearing the side of the receiver......in other words, the rear sides fit down inside the receiver so if it try to slide it back in it catches on the receiver.........

Is the side of the box bowed out?  Is the magazine orientated correctly?  I attached a link to a parts diagram below.  It should help you to be certain everything is pointed in the right direction..  Perhaps the front of the mag needs to start first?  It's hard to see from here what is interfering with the mags insertion.  Got a digital camera?  I still am having a hard time visualizing what is keeping the box out.  The diagram I linke below shows one variation of the 110 action.  There are several.  Does yours resemble the one below?

Ok...got it in.......posted under the technical section at savageshooters.com and got this response...

Quote
"Ok, to remove your magazine box your going to have to remove the stock, place the firearm with the BBL in a padded vice ( or other means to hold it) have the box side up, get a HAMMER ( perferable a plastic type) and smack it from the rear to front in a up ward motion. The box is held in place with an ear on the front and rear, tucked into the slot in the receiver. After it is removed, replace it with magazine of choice. Smack it in after you have the front ear in the slot, smack the rear box sidewards so it pops into the slot. "

I had to put the front in then smack the rear just above the lip with a hammer and a brass drift......it then popped in.......

That was way to hard for my simple mind to figure out
!.......duh......here's my sign!

Thanks for the help gunnut69.....I know it's hard to visualize!
