Will the cocking of the hammer...?

On Ruger single actions with a transfer bar, the transfer bar is only up if the trigger is depressed when the hammer is released. This should take some of the danger out of dropping a cocked gun.

To see this, release hammer on cocked gun but take finger off trigger before easing hammer all the way down. You'll see the transfer bar drop before the hammer is fully down.

Great idea about the piece of leather. Don't know why I never thought of it, but I'll be using it in the future.

Two Deer now with the Vaquero and have had the hammer back three times as I let off once.
In each case I was able to finnnesss that hammer back creating the low or no frequency noise.

I have never had a deer flat out spook and run away from the hammer being cocked. Even on my old model Blackhawk with all it's loud clicks.

They will sometimes jerk there head up as if to question what they heard but usually two things happen, either you freeze and they go about their normal business or after the click the sights are aligned and you make the shot.

Every deer and every situation is different so nothing is written in stone with hunting.
