I have sevaral that are capable, just wondered if any of you actually do.

That has generally been my pattern.  I started with a .303, went to a .308 Norma (the madness was on me  :twisted: ) a 30-06, and then a .358 Winchester.  Any of which were plenty for moose.  A couple of times I've hunted with guns I regard as "deer only" (6mm Rem. and .250 Savage), and then switched to the .358 for moose.

Last year I bought a Remington 7600 in .35 Whelen, and have started to consider this as my "moose gun" - more because its way more than is necessary for deer than because its better for moose than the .358.

I also have a 7600 in .35 Whelen and it has become my one gun.  It is dependable, accurate, fast for a left handed person, and more than enough gun.

I can reload anything from .357 pistol bullets up my limit, 250's.  What can't I kill with it at reasonable ranges. Yea I know, politicians! :grin:

I feel your pain. I had a Cow and a yearling 50 feet from me feeding for probably ten minutes this year. 338WM did me a lot of good. Had calf tag only.

When I first started out all I had was one rifle, my rem 700 .308 didmeverything, 150g for deer, 180g, for moose, 200g if we drew an adult tag, 130g for coyotes and other vermin. Not the Ideal thing to do but it worked fine until I could afford the selection I have now.

Started off with a 303 british for first big game rifle-cheapest at the time-,now use a remington model 600 in 350 mag for bear and close range moose,308 for deer or a contender in 730 or 357 herret.long range a ruger #1my favorite rifle,in 2506 or 7mm.I like to use a different caliber every hunt if i can,helps that i work part time at Epps.
Everybody neeeeeds more guns,just dont let the government know.

I spent several years using just a 30-30 for deer and coyotes. I picked up a sportered 8x57 Turkish mauser this past summer and just before that I found a nice Winchester model 70 in .22-250.  I now have the bases covered and expect to go bear hunting this spring. The .22-250 is a dream to shoot, now if I would just stop shooting over everything. It is hard to switch fron a 30-30 to something that shoots that fast. My instinct keeps telling me to hold over a coyote at 300 yards, which is not needed. The Mauser will put 3 170g Hornadys into 1" at 100 yards, and has taken it's first deer this last fall. I still have the Savage model 340 in 30-30, and plan to carry it when still hunting deer.

John Y - Killed everything for over 30 years with .270 with a few exceptions.  Took a couple deer and a moose with a .243 and 2 or 3
bear with a 22.250.  Decided to re-arrange things prior to registration
so I re-barrelled a .270 to .280 Ack and got a cow elk with it.  I'm REALLY
happy with the .280 (and that's hard to get me to admit) built a 6/284
out of a Rem 700 that weighs in a 13 1/2 lbs, finished in Dec and I'm
expecting good things from it.  Plan to do some benchrest with it and
use it for a long range deer gun.  My gunsmith is doing a 7/08 Ackley
for me that should be around 9 lbs with a scope, so as the saying goes
you only need one rifle but hell you know the rest.
Geez Ol Tom did you capture the north american market on 541s?
