My friend has a marlin model 80 7shot clip miocro groove with no serial # on it . Does anyone have an idea on when this rifle may have been manufactured?

Tanoose, the Model 80 was my first gun in 1950. I was 8 years old at the time and the rifle had the 6 groove rifling. The microgrooving came into the scene around 1958 to 1959. The model was upgraded to the model 81 of which is not as good as the older model 80's. I am not a expert on the rifles but figure that it is at least 38 to 45 years old. They still make clips for them. Tryit.

The Models 80 and 81 were produced at the same time.  The 80 has the detachable box magazine, and the 81 is the tube magazine version.
My Model 80DL is pre-microgroove, with the peep sight - a very accurate shooter!  No scope grooves either - they came in about '55 or so.
I like these rifles more so than later Marlins, as they have a heftier stock, more 'adult-sized'.
