I installed my extra scope, a burris 3x9 compact, on my rem nylon 66, and I maxed out the elevation adj and it still shoots 5-6" low at 25 yrds. The scope has been on a ruger M77mkII, .223 and it was zeroed just fine, then it went to a M1894 marlin 44mag, also zeroed fine.then it sat on the shelf for 6 mo.
Anything I can try to raise the poi? BTW i'm using millet 3/8" grooved rings.

One option would be to use the offset inserts with the Burris Signature Zee rings on dovetail to weaver adapters. B-Square makes the adapters as well as Eric Brooks and BKL.

You could also just use the rimfire version of the Signature rings with the inserts mentioned above. I have the rings on my silhouette gun and they work great, holding steady without any chance of putting ring marks on the scope.

Lawdog, I have to agree with you in general on the B-square stuff, but the adapters are extremely solid and well built, they might be one of the few exceptionally good products that B-square offers. I have them on my CZ452 American, and there are lots of users at RFC that love them and have high praise for them....FWIW. :wink:

this is my 2nd set of rings, 1st was tasco POS they wouldn't stay clamped to the groove. I hate to spend any more $. can I shim it any way? maybe tape between the front ring and the scope?

To raise POI, you need to raise the rear of the scope, tape will work, but it will also be hard on the scope and can ruin it since the scope won't be held at the same angle by each ring. If you need to shim the rear ring more than about .020", you'll wish you had bought just new rings. A few more bucks invested in the Burris Signature rings and the offset insert kit will be much better than buying a new scope also!!

according to my starret 0-1 mic my masking tape mics @ .0065, so would it hurt anything to try 2 or 3 pieces?

While the Burris rings are the best choice I have shimmed many scopes, even on heavy recoiling rifles, and never had a problem.

Before you shim much I would filp flop the rings. One ring may be a little higher than the other. If you have a bore sight you can quickly tell if that does the trick. If not it will take a trip to the range.

And the direct answer to your question is: No, it won't hurt. I hope you have better luck scoping your Nylon 66 than I did. I gave up. I couldn't get a scope to stay still on the mount. A few shots and it would be on the ground. Now it is back to the original iron sights.

that was the prob w/ the POS tasco rings, I did'nt even get to shoot, the scope would fall off in my hands w/ minimal side pressure. I bought what I thought were high quality rings to hopefully eliminate that prob, and it did, w/ a few taps ( wacks) of a hammer on the front of the reciever groove. The 'range' is my back yard, so that is'nt an issue. Iron sights arn't an option unless I buy new, the rear sight worm gear is stripped, and moves too easily, that is why i scoped it in the 1st place. the 1st group at 25 yds was <3/8 " 8-9"low and right.

Nylon 66s are neat guns. Mine was the gun my father taught me to shoot with. He bought it the first year they were offered. He was impressed with the ad where the gun was frozen in a block of ice, thawed out and shot. I never knew why because we lived in Southern California at the time. He bought it from Montgomery Wards, catalog, and mail order. My how the times have changed. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine!
