OK boys, the disclaimers first.
I don't own a Glock.
I do watch Mail Call and am a fan of the Gunny.
Tell me about this Glock 18 ,that is available to some portions of the public, in a automatic mode.
Any of you law dogs ever handled one ? I am sure, well maybe I am sure, that PD's do not allow patrol officers to carry them.
What is the scoop?

I've never shot one or seen one in person. I do know that police departments can order them new from Glock for around $365. I don't really see much need for one though they are cool.

Back in 1997 I was in the Police Academy, and an instructor had one on loan. WOW. If you do not know how to finesse the trigger, the barrel can really rise up on you. Sadly, I was not able to shoot it, only watch him shoot it. :cry:

Well,I had the luck of shooting a converted G19 at a full auto shoot in Alabama. It was compensated though so it was controllable. Kept three round burst pretty easy. Five round on occasion.

Been thinking about this'un and, well, I have come to the conclusion it aint worth it. Seems as though there are better options around.

My duty Glock is a G18. It is of course full size, therefore harder to hide, but I have other pistols for that. It requires practice to be effective, but on select fire it is very controllable with 3-5 round bursts, and even 17 round mag dumps at less than 7 yards. It isn't that hard to do, it just requires a consistant stance and grip, as there is NO watching the front sight as it cycles.

lefthanded is right, they are controllable despite what everyone says.

I have shot them, but it is not my duty weapon.
