300 gr Keith Nose .44cal, deadly on water-filled container at 100 yards...blew it 2 feet in the air.  Can't wait to see what it will do to a deer.

I have been told by Cecil himself that the Keith Nose is devestating on game.  Really hammers 'em.  He did say that it will not perform accuracy wise with the Dead Centers, but rather it is more of a brush bullet.  I would guess 100 yards or less.

Smoky,
That would make sense,  The keith nose bullet was designed as a Pistol Bullet. (By Elmer Keith)  Was looking around Cecil's web sight and found where he talks about his version.  They look Like they will flatten out pretty Good.   If it ever stops raining or Snowing on the weekends ,Maybe i'll get to play around with them.    Thanks again

sk330lc,

I use 300 grain .44 caliber KNHP's in my .50 caliber Omega.  I imagine that a 330 grain .45 caliber bullet will be similar in length and will be stabilized by your Encore's 1:28" twist.  you will have to try them to be sure.

In my omega I get groups of 1.25" at 100 yards  w/90 grain of 777 (FFg granulation).  This kind of accuracy won't win any matches but lot of guys hunt with centerfires that don't shoot this well and take game every year.

That style of bullet is a deer killer.  I took three deer with this combination.  The longest shot was at a GPS measured 145 yards and the closest at 30 yards.  Two were double lunged and one was shot thru the neck just forward of the shoulders.  None took a step.  The death run of a few yards that is fairly common with centerfire rifles didn't occur.  In all cases the soft lead bullets with the huge hollowpoints opened quickly and wide.  In all cases the bullet completely penetrated the deer leaving a large exit hole in case blood trailing had been necessary.

I realize that 3 deer is a pretty small sample size, but I saw nothing to indicate that I should quit using these bullets to deer hunt.

Although my experience is with .44 caliber bullets I can't imagine that a .45 caliber bullet of similar weight and construction will perform all that differently.

Although not a tack driver the KNHP is a deer killer.  I recommend them to anybody.  I even bought 250 of them from Cecil and shouldn't need to buy bullets for my omega for quite some time.

I hope this information helps.

John
