What the farthest distance you have shot your Freedon Arms revolver?

What kind of groups did you get?

Question for FA Shooters

Shot the FA83 in .454 Casull out to 400 yards but not for groups. Was shooting at a gong about the size of a ground hog roughly. Didn't hit it every time by any means but enough to know it would if I held right. Since I was holding the bottom the scope image at the top of the plate to hit it the hold wasn't as consistent as it would have been if I could have seen both target and cross hairs better.

Question for FA Shooters
« Reply #2 on: August 03, 2003, 07:56:41 AM »
Hello Jay,

I’ve only been shooting the 475 for a short while and haven’t put time in with a scope and a steady bench to see what it will really do. So everything I have done is with open sights and mostly offhanded shooting.

At the range where I shoot there is a 250 yard gong, about 12-14 inches in diameter, standing freehanded I’ve put as many as 3 out of 5 shots on the gong but usually I only hit it once or twice out of 5.

Shooting 100 yards open sights I average 5 inch groups shooting off a rolled up towel to support my wrist and a rear sand bag support for a rifle to support the frame. This is awful unsteady. I feel my gun with a scope, a solid comfortable rest in the hands of a better shooter 2 inch groups wouldn’t surprise me. The factory target that was shipped with this gun shows 4 shots at 25 yards is only a bullet and a half diameter wide with the 5th shot making it 2 full diameters wide. The factory is shooting 400gr XTP Hornady ammo @,I think, ~1250-1300fps. My 454 factory target is a 5 shot group that is 1.5 bullet diameters wide. Both of these guns have 6 inch barrels.

FA guns really do shoot.

Have a good one,
Scott

I shot my highest silhouette revoler score of 36 & 6 yesterday. Missed two &%$#^ chickens and two rams. What really surprised me was the hitting 6 of the 10 shoot off targets. The range uses big bore chickens @ 200 M. and with open sights they look like a pin head. I shoot the Sierra 250 gr. silhouette bullet @ a little over 1400 FPS out of the 10 inch barrel.

The guns will out preform anything that Delgue try's to attempt.  My eyes are getting to old to go out much beyond 50-100 yards.

At twenty five, I can get one ragged hole from a sand bag rest, with my 83 and 97.

tecrsq,

First let me welcome you to GBO and say you made a good choice with the purchase of a FA revolver. The only limit you will find is within your self. You need to let your dog in , he is about to wag his tail off. Have a good day...........Joe...............

200 meters is the furthest. Have fired numerous cast bullet 40x40 and a 60x60 cast bullet State Revolver Championship in silhouette.

Recent load testing with a Burris 3x12 it shot 3 consecutive 5 shot 2 inch 150 meter groups (benched) (cast bullet).

Before I bought it the wife said if I buy one more gun she was leaving. I kinda miss her but there is a definate love affair with my shiny shooter and she never nags and doesn't mind if I let someone else fondle her.

No no no . . . . Not the wife, she's gone. The love afair is with the shiny shooter. The shiny shooter never ever nags, doesn't complain when I put her away, doesn't ask if her grips make her look fat, doesn't complain when I play with other guns.

Yes, my FA's name is shiny shooter !!
