Author Topic: Help with bear weight estimate (Read 601 times)

We just returned from a great bear hunt in Ontario, filling all 4 tags with good bears. We were at an outpost camp and unfortunately had to skin and gut the animals prior to getting a weight. We did measure from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail and the largest measure around the chest. Does anyone if there is a chart that may give us a decent estimate. My boar measured 6' 1/2" in length and 47" at the chest. My brother shot a boar measuring 5' 2" and 48" with a huge head. Any help would be great. The other bears we shot were barren sows one old bugger that was gray and needing a dentist.

What the hell, our measurements don't make any sense what so ever on that chart. Ahhhh, I must have mixed the length and girth measurements up. All we had at the time was a string and no tape measure. I measured the strings at home and just assumed the lenght would be longer. Rookie!! So we did not measure the tales I wonder how long a bear tail is??? 4"??

If that is the case our bears were approximately 380 to 400lbs.

I'm pretty confident the two are switched up. Need to be the other way around.
