7.62 x 39 Factory Encore Barrels
« on: June 06, 2005, 03:27:38 PM »
I have a TC factory 10" Encore 7.62x39 that I picked up some time ago but have not shot yet.  I just bought a set of dies to handload it since factory offerings are mostly FMJs and I want to load up some heavy bullets in it.  I am wondering if anyone can tell me if these barrels have a bore diameter of .308 or .311, as I want to decide on which bullets to try - any help will be appreciated.

I have an early one but don't know if they have changed or not. Mine is a .308 bore and have only shot handloads out of it a few times before placing it back in it's box. Too many other toys to play with.

:D I have a 20" SS Encore barrel w/ a muzzle tamer ,made by Fox Ridge. It loves AA1680 & 125gr Sierra Spitzers. SUB MOA & 2383 fps. I shot this over a Chrony ,so it's not an estimate. Of course a shorter barrel will have an effect & I don't know how much. I was told by T/C that all the bores are .308 dia.-If you don't like yours drop my a line.

Hey thanks for the replies, I ended up calling TC and they confirmed that the 10" barrels they made were a 0.308" diameter bore.  I was looking through my reloading manuals last night and was able to find data for up to 150 grain bullets - I was hoping to use a 180 grain.  Specifically looking at the 180 NBT, 180 SST, or 180 Interbond - are any of you loading heavy bullets in a a 7.62x39?  If so what bullets / loads are working for you?  I noticed that there is data for the 300 Whisper with heavy bullets - I am thinking that may be a good starting point if nobody has good data.
