If you could only have two?

Well they asked it about rifles and handguns allowed 500 so what the hack.

I've got the two I would keep:

AyA Matador in 16 ga with 28" barrels bored imp/mod

Ithica mod 37 in 16 ga with 28" barrel bored full

Those others I have don't count! :lol:

I absolutely love the 16 ga when built on a 16 ga frame. Even in my 12 ga, also a double, I only use 1 1/8 oz loads and in 20 ga, Browning o/u, I only use 1 oz loads. I've a 28 ga AyA but never use it and a 410 AyA I never use.

I think it would have to be my 12 gauge Beretta 686 and a 20 gauge Stevens 311.

Remington 1187 and a Remington 870 both in 12 gauge. I think that would cover all bases as far as shotgunning goes.
Currently I have an 1100, a Beretta 390, a Mossberg 500c 20 gauge slugger, an old Iver Johnson single 20gauge and an old Ted Williams single .410 and love em all.

I refuse to participate unless allowed at least 100. I wasn't able to confine my needs on the other to the 500 and likely couldn't here at 100. So no list provided.

Older Benelli M1S90 in 12ga for the serious stuff.

Browning BSS in 20ga with screw-in chokes for the fun stuff.

12ga 26" BPS synthetic camo 3"

These two shotguns get 90% of my use.  I could give up my turkey gun and my goose gun and shoot the BPS, afterall I shot turkeys and geese with a BPS before I bought those guns.

Why do so many of you pick 16 or 20 ga?  I've never seen a reason to go smaller than 12ga for an adult male.  I'm not trying to start a fight, just an honest question.

Several reasons; as I am twice your age.................

As the miles get longer & the hills steeper the smaller gauges come to the fore. When hunting the uplands there is a BIG DIFFERENCE between the 6lb 20GA & the 8lb 12GA; also the ammo is lighter too. I shoot 40-50 pheasants a year & kill as many or more than my friends with the larger guns. Why? because I shoot a lot & got to be pretty good. It's all a function of practice. The ONLY TIME I use a 12GA is when I'm hunting geese; & then solely because I must use steel shot. The 107 ducks I put in the freezer were all shot with a 20GA. It's all a question of what your skill level is. BTW; that BPS of yours is a fine gun! I hope to get one in a 28GA soon.

I wish you were closer I'd give you a hands on lesson why. Nothing handles like a 16 ga built on a 16 ga frame. I've handled lot's of shotguns and used 12's for years. A Bernadelli Roma III, a Charles Daley (my training gun when I was training dogs), a Stevens mod 311 and an AyA matordor. I've also got a Browning Citori 20 ga, An AyA matordor 28 ga. None handle like that AyA 16 ga. I've used lot's of pumps also but the best handling I've ever used is my Ithica mod 37 16 ga. The only gun I've ever used that rivled my 16's but not quite was a Browning Double auto w/26" skeet barrel in 12 ga.
the only 12 ga loads I've ever used are 1 1/8th oz loads, the standard load in the 16 ga.

I know I would keep my Winchester Model 1912, 16 ga. with ugraded wood, modified choke, english stock. I too love the 16 ga. for upland hunting.  The second one is more difficult but it probally would be my Browning Superposed 20 ga.

Browning Citori Superlight 16 ga.  Covers all of my upland needs.

Browning A-Bolt Stalker 12 ga.  Covers my whitetail and black bear hunting needs.

Winchester Model 97 12ga Full choke for, well almost everything.

870 SP 12ga  slug gun for everything else.

Beretta Extrema 12 gauge 3.5",  26" barrel, Max 4 HD Camo is my waterfowl and turkey gun.  
Franchi Veloce 20 gauge, 26" barrel, 5.7lbs. for all my upland needs.

Actually, both of mine would be Berettas. One would be a 391 Extrema, as even the 3.5" loads don't kick much at all out of the wonderful Beretta gas system. The other could be any of about four Beretta O/Us, a bit lighter than the Extrema and I load all my own shells so I could load them down when I wanted to.

Remington 11/87 3" 12 gauge with 28" barrel and a 12 gauge Ruger Red Label with 26" barrels. Oh yeah, if I'm allowed an extra barrel I'll take a fully rifled slug barrel with open sights for the Remington.

my two choices are very odd...but my favorite guns..

#1...my old 20 guage pump 3"(coast to coast model) springfield.  manufactured for coast to coast hardware stores in the 70s'  i bought it in 1976 for 79.00...and it is the most no frills problem free shooter.  ive taken over 30 deer with it using smoothbore breneke slugs.  and literally hundreds of ducks n pheasant.  and lots of othe critters.

#2  12 guage winchester "super x"  its old n its beautiful 30" vent double bead barrel.  only 2 3/4"...but hell i hit what i shoot with it.

Would never limit myself, but am debating having two pumps, a heavyweight and a lightweight, or a Rem 870 with barrels and mag extensions to be added or removed for all my sporting and home defense needs.

My first choice is my Beretta 686 SP Sporting 12ga

The second choice is tough it would have to be my Beretta AL391Urica Sporting Gold 12ga, or my Belgian Browning Auto5 light 20ga.

Now lets see I would keep my 11-48 Remington 16 ga because it fits just right and I cant seem to miss with it the rest of them let me know who's boss and a Mossberg 500 with choke tubes and a extra 18 in barrel because my wife bought it for me on my 30 th birthday and suprised me big time she has bought me 5 guns total and each one knocked my socks off. She got me my first new gun for our 5 wedding ann.
