scope mounting on the handi?
« on: June 06, 2005, 11:54:52 AM »
I got the two spare scopes out and tried to set them up on the Handi 06 seem the low mounts weaver bases will not work, the medium will work, but the hammer just clears the scope ring,I will have to see to find a set of weaver in the high  height to get everythig to work. :-D
Any one out there need a set of low wever rings that want to swap for a set of high rings ,shoot me a e mail :D

Yeah, I had the same problem the first time I tried scoping my 223 Ultra. Eventually the hammer will touch the scope with Med rings. Or at least mine did.   Weaver rings have always worked great for me.

My rings on my Handi are low profile. It limits where you can mount the scope. And once the hammer extension came loose, slid up and prevented the hammer from contacting the firing pin.
Ohhhh, I hate when that happens

HANDI AND SCOPE RINGS

I think the medium height will work but the clearence between the hammer and the scope body is about the thickness of a match book cover.
I have a couple of scopes as spares ,but today scopes are larger in the rear of the tube, that seem were the problem is. :D  :-D

I put a Swift 3x9x40 and a Bushnell 3x9x40 and had to use the Highs in a Leopold mount. Thought I could use med,and went and bought them but just wouldn't clear the hammer,so will return them. I didn't try the Weavers in med, just don't care much for the Weaver rings. Considered bobing the hammer off, but that would take away the resale value of the rifle. I don't know why NEF doesn't have a replacment hammer one could buy so one could use the med mounts. Just doesn't feel like I get my chin planted good enough on the stock using the high mounts. They also could go with a true mounty carlo stock. Iknow they call thier laminated a mounty carlo but it's just a raised comb. Just my 2 cents.   Zeak

I would think the medium mounts would work with the older wever scope
K model ,the tubes are a lot smaller then the new scope of today :D

I do not like scopes, but I have no choice with the current state of my eyes, so I am using low power, shotgun ,intermediate eye relief scopes on Weaver rails and with low mount rings .
I can mount them far enough forward to not need the hammer spur extension and shoot with both eyes open, as I prefer.

I've experienced the same with scopes. Found that the Simmons 2.5 shotgun scope worked great. But now need another, so called and found out they have been discontinued. What other scope(s) have you found to work in this "in front of hammer" position? Thank you.
