BC in 45-70 is a keeper!
« on: July 08, 2005, 06:46:47 AM »
First trip to the range yesterday with my used Buffalo Classic in 45-70.  What fun!  I pulled a couple of loads out of the middle of the Speer and Accurate load books.  I have some cast rn 405gr gas check bullets a friend casts for me and I loaded those over 30 gr of AA5744.  Didn't chrono that yet but should be doing mid 1500 fps.  Put up a blank paper at 100 yds with a 2 1/2" targ dot on it and cut the center with the first two holes, 3/4" apart!  Next I tried Remington 405 gr jacketed softnose over 50 gr of 4895 (again est mid 1500s).  First two shots were 2" low and 5/8" apart.  I adjusted the sights, and put two more into 1 1/8" about 2" high.  Adjust again.  Next one was dead center in the targ dot!!!  I'm not about to change a thing on those loads!  Only problem I had was a clamp on sling mount walked down the barrel a ways.  Have to replace that with some type of permanent sling swivel stud.  I seriously wondered if I would be able to shoot this gun well as I have a stigmatism in my eyes and the receiver sights look like ovals instead of being round.  Well, it seems my worries are over in that area!  This one's a keeper!  44 Man
