It shoots like a dream come true. It's the browning 71 .348win I posted on earlier. The old feller that loaded these rounds up for the guy I got the rifle from is still around but I have yet to chase him down and find out what was in them. I got my peep of choice in the other day, the Williams FP71. I am far happier with it than the Lyman, the adjustment screws are flush and they lock in. Took it out today and within three shots had it centered on a 17'' round white pizza plate at 100 yards. I then got two, 2 shot groups in a row under 2 inches. THe first was just under 2" and after walking out to the target, barrel cooled down, shot two more and they were 1 inch apart. The four shots were all well inside a 2 inch circle. Also took out few 8 to 10 inch flat shale rocks, stood on edge at 200yds. That was a real challenge because the front bead actually covers up the rock. I am absolutly tickled with the girl. I will clean her up with some hoppes bench rest in the morning and take it out again tomarrow.

Sky. Would like to know more about your mold. I haven't run across one in any of my sources. Do you use a luber/sizer, gas checks? what did the equipment cost? I have lead pot and lots of lead, I cast for muzzleloaders.

I have a chance at one of these .348 Browning 71's very reasonably. Part of a collection of a late hunting friend and the wife wants me to have it to remember him by.

Can you scope these rifles? What are the good loads? Is is possible to get brass?

How does this round compare with the .358 Winchester and .35 Whelen.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

There's is another post on this here on the second maybe third page of lever rifles. YEs you can still get cases and a couple outfits make bullets. I got 100 Hornady 200gr from Midsouth for 18$ and some change. I got dies with my rifle so I didn't have to look for them. I don't think it is quite as stong as a 35 whelen because it is a lower pressure round. BEing top eject a scope would have to be put way up on the barrel. Scout scope maybe long enough eye relief, but would take some machine work and I wouldn't think about cuttin on mine so I went with a peep. I got it for timber hunting elk or whatever and didn't want a scope for that.

Kurt, the mold I use for my .348 cast bullets is the Rapine #350225. It is a plain base mold that casts a 225 grain bullet. I get good accuracy with it in my Model 71.

1. I cann't find that mold, do you have a source??
2. Is the bullet run thru a sizer? and
3. mind sharing yer load?

I need a cheap shooting charge for this thing if I'm gonna shoot her much. I want to paste some jacks. No one hunts them round here and they make great stew.

(1) Do a search under one of the search engines, like Google or such, for Rapine Molds.
(2) I run them through a sizer to size them at .350" and apply the lube. They drop from my mold at .350" so I suppose an individual could do away with the sizing and apply some moly lube if they so desired.
(3) Two loads I use: 33 grains of IMR3031 or 50 grains of H4831, this is old 4831 and I mean old. I still have some H4831 that states on the side of the container that it is surplus World War II powder. I am not recomending these load for your rifle, I am just listing two that have worked fine for me.

In 1959 I made a bad mistake and traded off a model 71 for a double barrel shotgun. Back then they were much more common. The one thing I remember about that rifle is that it kicked worse than a 12ga.

I absolutely love this rifle. You're right it'l wake ya right up with that steel butt plate. I got one' O dem Spenco slip on's, tamed her right down. I don't leave it on all the time. OH don't be callin me a wussy now cus me knowsa wampuscat down dare an I'll send him yer way.
