Question on contender barrel
« on: June 18, 2005, 12:43:48 PM »
First off, I have been a browser for sometime and enjoy the site. This will be my first post. So Hello!!

I bought a used older contender .44 mag barrel at gander mountain for my G2. It fits good and opens fine. It is the 10 inch. The problem, it will not alow me to pull back the hammer. At looking at it compared to my .223 barrel it looks the same. Gander Mt.'s gunsmith will look at it when I bring it in to them. Just wondering what you guys think is wrong?

Thanks Bryan

My uneducated guess would be the locking lugs are not reaching the safety mechanism in the frame. This is a safety system preventing firing if the gun is not locked up tight. Experienced Contender owners stone these themselves, but you and I should send it to a gunsmith familiar with the Contender system.

make sure you close the action hard. I had that problem with my contender, you have to snap the action shut or it wont cock.

Question on contender barrel

Timothy thats what I thought. So I tried shutting it hard, but still would not cock. It locks up good and tight. I'm sure the gunsmith at gander Mt. where I bought it can fix it. I have other older barrels that work fine in my G2. And I have heard of this happening to other people, first for me. Just thought I might get some Ideas. Thanks GUYS for the help.

I had that problem after shooting some 45/70 shells. Had to send it back to the factory. When returned they said two springs had broke and they replaced them. No charge. :D
