Working on the club newsletter
« on: June 08, 2005, 05:13:07 PM »
About a year ago I took over our club's newsletter.  I've done others (radio control planes, USPSA club) so I've been down this road before.

What I find works well for me is to always be working on it plus the next one or two issues.  I have a basic plan for what to include, have a couple of RO II's doing a safety column and a few pards tossing in a joke or two.  I usually have something about the up-coming match, what happened and who won at the last match.  We have a reloading/gunsmithing article plus want ads and a few other things just to keep it interesting.

Always try to include as many member's names in each issue as possible.  I always try to list their names in this fashion:
Slashwood Whittler so their names stand out--looks important, which they are.  If someone has an alisas that lends itself to another color then I'll use that one Irish Gypsy , Texas Red Dawg .  Also try to make all the items positive, mentioning all that did a good job of picking up brass rather than complaining about those who didn't.  Puts a better taste in everyone's mouth.

Finally, I try to include pictures of members and items of interest (for those who can't read  )--anything to keep it from becoming ho-hum.

Some find that this can be hard work and it can be if you've been at it forever and get little input from other members.  But for me right now it's fun and a way of giving back to the club.
