I heard a coyote fawn kill last night.

I was sitting on my deck last night having a cigar and a beer, watching 3 deer and a turkey in the field behind my house.  All of a sudden I heard a fawn bellowing to beat hell.  Lasted for about 1 minute.  The deer that I was watching took off, and I then heard a doe snorting for about 5 minutes.  I can only imagine that her fawn was taken down by coyotes.  Damn critters.

I've seen pictues of a single coyote taking down a whitefaced calf. The ranchers out here will love you if you shoot a coyote.

I was out feed the horses a few months ago.  All of a sudden the horses became very alert, staring into the woods.  About 30 seconds later a doe came running out of the woods being chased by a single coyote.  I was able to get a shot off at the coyote, not expecting to hit him just scare him.  He kept chasing the deer across the field and into the next set of woods.  About a minute later another coyote came out of the woods tracking the scent from the chase.  I started following him to get a good shot.  Just as I was setting up for a 30 yard shot, my wife came out of the house.  I turned to see her and the coyote ran off.

Ever since then my wife has been calling me "John Wayne"  I told her I prefer "Big Jake"  :-D   But she doesn't listen.
