I have a question about cleaning my rifles. I shot some hotter loads from my rifle this weekend and noticed some leading in the barrel. What type of solvent removes lead. I know alot of you guys use Ballistoil (sp) but I am not sure if it removes lead. I was used to using copper removing solvents and I have no experience with lead ones.

JB Bore Paste in combination with a Lewis Lead Remover. I really believe ANYBODY that shoots lead bullets needs to have these in their cleaning arsonal

I'm surprised no one told you you can get rid of that leading problem by shooting black powder. :roll: :wink:

Do a search for lead remover.

Even if you don't buy from them you get great ideas.

Several chemical and mechanical systems are available.

The 'Foul Out III" is an electrical device that is supposed to be great.
It should be as it costs around $110.00.

I use Hoppe's Equivalent of the Lewis Lead Remover.
This is a mechanical device that uses a brass screen to scrub the lead from your barrel.

Works fine last long time.

Ballistol won't dissolve the lead but if you use it a few times, and don't wash it out with a strong solvent, it will soak into the pores of the barrel and prevent lead from being "soldered" onto the barrel in the future. After the barrel has been "seasoned", lead deposits can be pushed out with a tight patch. The JB's is also a good idea because lead won't stick as well to a shiny barrel.

Lead Removal cloth. I have seen it marketed as Remington, Hoppes, and KleenBore. It's non-abrasive and works great on barrels, cylinder faces, forcing cones, bullet molds, etc. It will remove bluing from your guns though, so be careful there.
