Need help with choke selection
« on: January 14, 2004, 03:55:42 PM »
Just bought a new Winchester Super X2 (3" chamber).  I plan on turkey hunting with this rig and need to find a turkey choke.  Anyone have experience with this gun and can make recommendations on chokes and loads?  I went through I don't know how many chokes and different loads for my 870 before I found the right one.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Get a hold of KICKS industries.
http://www.kicks-ind.com/

They will let you try different ones until you get the right combo for your gun. Just got one for my BPS and am giving it the test.

Thanks Varmit Master,

Looked on their website.  Kinda' pricey, but it would be a one time purchase.  I suppose after spending as much as I did on the SX2, it really doesn't look so bad.

I see you are an Arkie.  I was born there, but currently reside about 5 miles west of the line.  I may buy my out of state license this year just to hunt turkey.  I did much better in AR than in OK so far.  Much more public land to hunt.

Good luck and God bless!

HEY ENCORE SHOOTER, IM BRAND NEW ON HERE SO BEAR WITH ME, I ALSO BOUGHT A SUPER-X2 ,MINE WAS EQUIPTED WITH THE BROWNING INVECTOR TUKEY CHOKE, I TRIED SEVERAL DIFFERENT LOADS AND SHOT SIZES, AND THE BEST WAS THE REMINGTON HEVI SHOT IN 3 1/2 WITH 1 7/8 OUNCES OF NO.6 SHOT IT PRATICALLY EATS A TARGET UP AT 40 PLUS YARDS , SECOUND WAS THE WINCHESTER DOUBLE X HIGH VELOCITY IN 3 1/2 WITH 2 OUNCES OF NO. 6 SHOT ( BLACK SHELLS) THE SUPER-X HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY FAVORITES BUT THE REMINGTON HEVI SHOT OUT PERFORMS ANYTHING I HAVE TRIED, IT PERFORMS EXCELLENT WITH THE TURKEY CHOKE EQUIPTED WITH MY GUN , I ALSO TOOK OFF MY TRU GLO SIGHTS AND INSTALLED A WHITE BEAD ,I HOPE THIS HELPS  , LONEBRAVE

HEY ENCORE SHOOTER, I NEED MY GLASSES , I THOUGHT YOUR GUN WAS A 3 1/2 INCH GUN , BUT TRY  THE CHOKE I RECOMENDED IN THE PREVIOUS LETTER, AND IF YOU TRY THE WINCHESTER DOUBLE X MAGNUMS BUY THE HIGH VELOCITY (BLACK SHELLS) THEY PERFORM BEST IN MY REMINGTON 870 3 INCH GUN , IT ALSO HAS A HASTINGS 665 CHOKE  THAT THROWS SUPER TIGHT PATTERNS. Thanks, Lonebrave.  I did not buy the turkey model.  Got an improved, modified, and full choke with the gun.  I certainly will look at the factory turkey choke, though.  I do plan on trying the Winchester High Velocity rounds first.  Matter of fact, just picked a box up on the way home today.  Thought about the Hevi-shot as well.  Just could not convince myself that $2 a shot was worth it.  It might be, though.  May end up trying it anyway.  The weather here is s'posed to be in the high 60's this week.  Got me in the mood for turkey huntin' and crappie fishin'.

God bless,
