Ruger 96 in .22 LR
« on: January 29, 2006, 05:16:14 AM »
I'm real interested in some input from any of you who own or have shot one of these. I traded a 66 Remington some time back for one, slightly used, and mounted one of the Nikon .22 scopes on it. I had to hunt all over tarnation for the scope base for this thing, as the 10-22 base is different than the 96 base, the holes don't line up with the screw taps on the top of the receiver.

Anyway, the thing seems to shoot pretty well, probably not as well as the 77-22 I once had, but then trading frenzy took over (you know the drill) and I no longer have it.

So how about some input?  I don't know if they are still making this model. The action is slick enough and I have had a fondness for lever actions ever since getting my wife a 39-A before we were married, about 1979, one of the good ones without the (gag) cross bolt safety. Hey, I like that full length firing pin sticking out when there is a round chambered, good cocking indicator.
