Trouble with Winchester 45 Colt "Cowboy" loads in

I just got back from the range, we had a great time but I hit a snafu.
 
I had just placed some express sights on my F.A. 83 and was going to shoot some 45 L.C. rounds.
 
My pistol was spic and span clean but only 6 rounds out of the box of 50 were successfully shot downrange.
 
The ammo would slide effortlessly into the cylinder bores but I was unable to rotate the cylinder to the next for loading.
 
Seemed as if the case of each round would not fit and allow the cylinder to turn.
 
I even pushed each round down to ensure that they were correctly seated prior to rotating the cylinder.
 
Off came the cylinder and just to make sure I hit each hole with the bore snake and an old toothbrush around the rest to make sure all was good.
 
Funny thing......only 6 rounds out of the box of 50 would fit and allow the cylinder to rotate.
 
I am taking the ammo back Monday as the revolver has never failed to operate perfectly with every other ammo brand I have shot through it.
 
Anybody got any clues?

Bummer, I have never tried these in my 76 but have shot some in Ruger and they wern't much good, Very inconsistant in my opinion. We live and learn but the heck of it is we have to pay to learn, Not Good. Good luck Sir..........Joe..........

I would compare the case head thickness of the ammo you are having trouble with to ammo that you know is functional. Also take a look at the primer seating depths. Since FA has recessed cylinders the recess can sometimes fill up with crud or residue causing the case head to stick out farther than they should hence jamming up the cylinder. Also check to make sure the base pin is fully seated and that the base pin screw is nice and tight.

It's amazing how little things can cause a day at the range to not be as fun as it should have been.

Since FA has a written disclaimer not to use 45 Colt ammo in the Cassull cylinder they have the right not to warranty problems due to cylinder erosion or excessive pressure problems when shooting full bore loads.

Primers were recessed well and the 45 L.C. cylinder that also came with the gun is kept exceptionally clean.

I even took out the bore snake and hit all the chambers, also hit the cylinder good with a toothbrush and solvent.

Base pin was also set fully and pin tightened securely.

Funny that when I got home I took some spent 45 L.C. and 454 spent casings and it would spin freely.

I havent checked the cartridge cases at the case heads.

Funny how things happen with a gun with such tight tolerances.

Me thinks it's time to become a reloader and I am sure the tolerances of this gun would make me quite an  honest reloader!
