I hear ya leadthrower... :)  I sure bet that ford driver was embarrassed to get beat by an 8000Lb Dodge truck with a little 6Cyl in it.... :-D  :-D

Buy an old 12 valve cummins for 10K-12K add about 5K in mods and you could have a truck that quick.....

The ole Dodge is something else.  :-D   I might eventually get remotely close to that with my 24V, but not until I do some major tranny work, seeing how it is probably my wink leak.

If I was to swap out the gears on mine I might be in the ballpark....
I hear ya on the tranny, I have a fully built ATS so I dont have to worry about that at least.... :D

Boy by me pulled to the line at the local dragstrip in a quad cab,4X4 2500 on big mudders.Gale Banks sticker,and big exhaust.Ripped off a low 13 second pass, starting out in 2nd gear,and was still spinning and having a good bit of wheel hop.Dave

man, I'm glad my duramax came with the aluson tranny...I'm sure if I had the dodge tranny in there it would be blown by now with the numbers we're putting out of this truck...

Leadthrower.. You can go different levels/prices on the tranny upgrade, I personally spent around 5k on mine which is pretty much all the way.

Braz475.. yeah it took chevy a couple years but they finally got the bugs out of that allison, but I will assure you that my tranny now would hold anything the duramax could throw at it.

Looks like I will be waitting a while on the upgrade, that is unless I tear it out first.

As far as the duramax goes the only thing it has going for it is the allison tranny.

I cant speak for leadthrower, but he may be talking about the problems with the headgaskets blowing that Chevy had for the first couple years with the Duramax.
 I never did understand why Chevy used aluminum heads on an iron block with the kind of compression ratio used in a diesel application???

Looks like it is no longer a problem though, do they use some kind of trick head gasket now or how did they resolve that issue?

The main problems with the Duramax that I have heard about lately are injectors failing prematurely and from the sounds of things it isn't cheap to replace all eight of them either at a couple hundred a piece.   Early on I heard about lots of headgasket problems which may have been take care of now.
