DW, good for CCW?
« on: May 05, 2005, 03:54:44 AM »
I have a DW m 11 357 w/ 2" barrel.  Are these guns good for carry?  How durable and dependable are they?  Also (sorry for so many questions) can this gun handle a steady diet of .357's or should I mainly shoot .38's and stoke it with w/.357 for carry?  Thanks in advance.

I have never owned one of the early 357's, but from what I understand, the changes from the early guns to the present model were mostly cosmetic.  I know you can run full house 357's  in the current models all day and twice on Sunday and never have a hiccup.  They are very durable guns.  Of course any mechanism will wear out eventually, but I don't think I could ever wear out my Dan Wesson 357.  Maybe my children or grandchildren will, but only if they shoot it a lot more than me or abuse it.

The only complaint I've ever heard about a DW and CCW was the size.  If you have a DW small enough to suit you, then there are no other reasons against it.

If you can conceal it, I say go for it.  In fact, I'm considering a stainless model 15 to complement my blued one, just for CCW (the blued DW is just too pretty, don't want to mess that up).

Thank you Rolltide for the information.  Not that I always shoot with the high brass stuff, just good to know that it will take it.  To be honest, I really enjoy powder puff .38's and .22 (from my Ruger Bisley)

CTY, DW's are among the strongest handguns made.  Sure they will take it.  :D ....Van
