I went hog hunting Sat.and Lik2hunt wanted to watch a movie so I went by myself. Well the hogs were out in my favorite hunting spot,so I shot the biggest one that looked to be a 200 pd. one. She took off squealing and the 240 gr. Rem. really made a loud splat when it hit her.Well the hole plugged up and there was no blood trail, but the was a mud trail where she would fall carrying her right front leg. She went into the thickets where no one could dare go,and squealled some more. Well I gave up on her about a hour after dark, and returned this evening and there they were again. The one that was about half the size of the big one was there with all the little piglets. She was broadside and quartering a little toword me when I shot.
I held a little high and dropped her where she stood, and she made a few kicking circles and then stopped. Well she was a dry sow, that weighed about 130 fieldressed,so the big one the day before must have been close to 300 pds.fieldressed. The bullet did exit but not much of a exit hole, and it quickly plugged with intestions, and did not bleed out at all. I thinck I'll try the 300 gr XTP's on the next ones, and see if I can get a larger exit hole. The bigger one was shot at 112 yds. going quartering away. I aimed at the last rib on the close side and it should have busted the right shoulder, which I'm pretty sure it did since she was carrying her right front leg. I think the big one would be in the freezer if I had the 280 with me though.
The 445 shot perfect for me and when the shot is high enough they drop. Digger
