Ding! Another Bell Rings
This time, not for Liberty!by JB Williams
That little bell that just went off in your head this week is a warning you had better heed
When eminent domain becomes absolute dominion, as it just has, not a single citizen is safe from the insatiable greed of its government.
Once used as only a tool of last resort, to make room for a highway connecting cities, or a military installation needed to defend our borders, the law of eminent domain now places your home well in reach for purposes of simple commercial and economic development. According to the recent 5-4 Supreme Court ruling, your government now has the right to force you from your home just to make room for a shopping mall. This sounds dangerously close to the doctrines of Marx and Lenin
Doesnt it? The rights of the community over the individual? Power in the hands of the government rather than the governed?
What is the reasoning behind it? Simple, a shopping mall will generate more tax revenue than your home will, and that is in the best interest of the community at large
so they say.
Are you familiar with this famous quote, "Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms (of government) those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny"?
How about this one, "I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them."?
You should, they are all quotes from Thomas Jefferson, remember him? Jefferson also said the following, "I think we have more machinery of government than is necessary, too many parasites living on the labour of the industrious."
I chose these particular quotes to demonstrate just how well the founders were able to predict the future, but also to remind people that some things are completely predictable, human nature being one of those things. The founders were brilliant in my opinion, but not as a result of their higher learning or well traveled understanding. Rather for their innate ability to know the weaknesses of men and write a set of founding documents aimed at protecting the governed from those who would govern.
America has been wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them for decades now. Our government has done so because we have too many parasites living on the labour of the industrious." [Jeffersons warning of the perils of a welfare state, which has gone un-noticed by later generations.] Just as experience had shown the founders, we too are now learning that even under the best forms (of government) those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny."
The federal govern can confiscate private property at will, for private commercial use, under façade of the "economic" interests of the community at large. This concept is not as new as one might think. The federal government long ago established that they can confiscate the private property of the governed, for benefit of the community at large. It's called a graduated tax system. It gives them the right to take private property from one who earns it without their consent, and use it for benefit of those they arbitrarily choose.
There is no wide-spread public outcry regarding the latest interpretation of eminent domain, because Americans have become accustomed to their government running roughshod over them. They have come to expect it, feel helpless and even accept it as an inevitable progression. This is by the way, exactly what the left means by progressive
The enemy within has been constant and patient, slowly working on the minds of the people, convincing them that the primary function of their federal government is to look out for the private personal economic interests of the masses. As a result, a little more than 200 years following our Declaration of Independence, we find ourselves becoming increasingly dependent.
As a result of that, the federal governments voracious appetite for an ever increasing share of once private resources has grown to where they can only feed that appetite by confiscating property and resources needed to meet the endless demands of those who look to them for their personal well-being.
Jefferson went on to say, All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent, which provides the explanation for my writing this and many other columns <http://jb-williams.com/>
We have clearly been silent too long! Our government and the liberal left, like our children, interpret our silence as our consent.
Jefferson said, "Dependence begets subservience and venality, suffocates the germ of virtue, and prepares fit tools for the designs of ambition." I could never in a million years, say it any better than that. If you can comprehend this statement, you can vividly see the error of our complacency, our tolerance, our generational ignorance.
Jefferson also wrote these famous words, whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it. But is that where we are today? Many in America think we are, some calling for just such a remedy. Allow me to point out something you might have missed in the headlines
Freedom of religion is under attack on every corner in America. But congress has made no law, the judiciary has
Murder, the taking of innocent life, not in self-defense, has been made legal in America under the name abortion and we sit silently and watch over 1.4 million of them a year. But congress made no such law, the judiciary did
Congress has made no law sanctioning or endorsing sexually explicit or perverted behaviors or public displays either. But the judiciary has
And, congress has made no law giving your local shopping mall developer a right to your home. But the judiciary just did
Are you seeing a trend yet?
Liberals are quick to ask who would protect the rights of the individual from the tyranny of the majority if not the judiciary? But they have never asked themselves who would protect the rights of all individuals from the unchecked and unintended tyranny of a judiciary run amok?
Liberals love those liberal interpretations of those unwritten rights, separation, abortion, marriage for all beings, regardless of gender or species. And liberal judges have made a career out of making a mockery of the founding documents by interpreting words the founders didnt write. Political motives provided the needed justification for the silence, but now the tables are beginning to turn on those who gave birth to the monster. They find themselves on the menu
It wont matter which party you belong to, when they come for your home
Are you getting the point yet? We dont need to abolish our government, but we most certainly do need to alter it, and quickly! A free nation can not survive a judicial branch that believes it is the legislative branch of a representative republic nobody elected them to represent. The rule of few over many is called an Oligarchy, and that is exactly what we have today. The people cant control the judges, neither can congress nor the President. They are unaccountable to anyone, free to hand down any edict they choose, not even restricted by a Constitution they regularly re-write at will, circumventing entirely, the amendment process intentionally made difficult by the founders.
Jefferson wrote about this very error in the Constitution, in a letter to Monsieur A. Coray, Oct 31, 1823, At the establishment of our constitutions, the judiciary bodies were supposed to be the most helpless and harmless members of the government. Experience, however, soon showed in what way they were to become the most dangerous; that the insufficiency of the means provided for their removal gave them a freehold and irresponsibility in office; that their decisions, seeming to concern individual suitors only, pass silent and unheeded by the public at large; that these decisions, nevertheless, become law by precedent, sapping, by little and little, the foundations of the constitution, and working its change by construction, before any one has perceived that that invisible and helpless worm has been busily employed in consuming its substance. In truth, man is not made to be trusted for life, if secured against all liability to account.
The founders did a superb job of providing for checks and balances in the executive branch and congress, but overlooked the threat of judicial tyranny, judges acting on their own, with impunity. What we have today as a result of this flaw is an Oligarchy, the rule of few over many. Those few just decided that your right to your home is not as important as their right to more revenue from a shopping mall strategically placed on your property.
Jefferson and the other founders, while not able to predict a tyrannical judicial branch, were able to predict a tyrannical government acting at odds with the interests of the individuals their constitution was written to protect.
Thats why Jefferson also said this, "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." He said, "The beauty of the second amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it." He reasoned that "The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government", adding, "Every generation needs a new revolution."
I could have written this same column using quotes from most any of the founders, as they all felt very much as Jefferson did on these particular matters. I chose Jefferson because he is the founder used most to justify the agenda of Americas left.
It is not time to abolish
Most of Americas ills could be resolved with one alteration to our government
Simply stop the judicial branch from pretending to be the legislative branch. Presidents and Congressmen are elected to represent the will of the governed. Judges are too often appointed to circumvent that will and our entire system of self-governance with the single stroke of their pen.
Even liberal party monarch, JFK recognized reality by stating, "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible, make violent revolution inevitable."
Another revolution is coming and the judicial branch will soon find itself on the front lines of a war they cant win. They have acted outside of the scope of their authority, at odds with the people who govern this free nation, convinced that the American people will sit idly by as they are stripped of their nation, one case at a time.
JFK was right, a peaceful revolution, (alteration) is possible. But if peaceful action is not taken due to complacency, if people of good conscience remain silent, violent revolution will become inevitable.
The people may not fight for the home of their neighbor, like they should. But they will fight when their government is at their own doorstep, they will have no choice. But by then, they will find violent revolution to be their only option.
Last, dont allow the liberal old media to tell you this is some Bush agenda item intended to help his rich friends in the shopping mall business. The 5 ruling judges were Stevens, Kennedy, Souter, Ginsburg and Breyer. Those liberal justices always looking out for you little guys
