sling or holster for encore pistol?

What is the best way to carry an encore pistol in the field?  I ordered a Bianchi holster, but Im not sure if a sling would be better.?  Are there any slings out there that dont use the barrel band for the encore?  The holster I ordered fits the gun well, but just seems HUGE.   I need something for deer and elk season, lots and lots of walkings.

I use a sling on my 14" Contender. It is set up with a swivel stud that holds the forearm (Pachmayr) on. I can also put a Harris bipod on & still use the sling attachment on that if needed.
I think you could replace the front forearm screw with a swivel stud & spacer that would get the stud above the wood. Or buy an extra forearm for hunting & mount a seperate stud in it.
I also remove the stud when shooting from sandbags so it doesn't get hung up.

I got the bandolier holster for my 15" Encore.  Not been in the field with it as of yet, but I like it so far.

I think you need to try both and see what you feel more comfortable with. I personally like the bandolier holster.  :D

I think the answer lies in what type of hunting you are doing.  When I am chasing hogs I might literally walk ten miles a day, crawling through laurel thickets.  Also, I wear a large backpack while hunting.  A shoulder holster (bandolier holster) will not work with my backpack.  For me there is no choice but to use a sling.  

However, if you rode a 4-wheeler to within a few hundred yards of your stand then a holster would certainly be a good option.  In other words, the more you have to walk, the less attractive that a holster is to me.

Thumbs up to the bandolier!! Carried  mine both ways and the bandolier is the ticket. It also keeps gun from getting banged around while climbing strands and when crawling thru thick stuff. Also get the shell holders with it. Keeps em' right there handy for quick use.

I have my 4 common T/C hunters set up with barrel band slings with swival bases.  I literal walk hundreds of miles every year and would
not even think of the added weight of the holster.  I  hunt with an external frame pack and used the top bag pin hole and placed bolts on both sides.
This function works for hanging the sling on or if I want I just drop the gun and sling past this spot and down on the frame post.  If I fall the bolt stops the gun from flying!

It carries just like a very short rifle and does not hang on the terrible brush here in Alaska.  The 15-16 inch barrels are flush or slightly less than the top of my shoulder. I also use a one inch non-skid sling
and the gun does not ever slide!

Be careful and always double check!
