Parasitic wildcats
« on: June 27, 2005, 09:46:05 AM »
Today most of the niches that will be filled have been filled. There's really no need for wildcats anymore, but there's no reason to drop the concept of having a cartridge named after you.  Just pick an existing cartridge and give it a name. Have a gunsmith mark the barrel of your rifle to indicate the name.

Here are some of my personal favorites:
.300 Questor Magnum (actually a 30-06)
11.5 Questor (actually 45ACP)
45 Questor (actually 45ACP)
.458 Questor (actually 45ACP)
.45-200 Questor (actually 45ACP for 200 grain bullet),
45-4-200 Questor (actually a 45ACP for four grains of Bullseye powder and a 200 grain SWC bullet), and finally
.22 Questor (22 Long Rifle)

When developing these parasitic wildcats it's important to be lazy enough to avoid cartridge development entirely, but dedicated enough to hire a gunsmith to mark your barrels. Nevermind the massive confusion about names and chamberings later. Questor has a Wildcat Registry (like the Star Registry) where we'll register your wildcat in a computer database in perpetuity.  If you can't name your own wildcat we'll name one for you.  Cost is $50 and you receive a certificate of authenticity stating that your wildcat is really  a wildcat.  Dig out those old guns, fellers, and give them new life by giving them a nice new name.

Ok.

Lets start with the former 45-70 Government.   I'd like to change that to .458 Preston.

We have quite a bit of freedom with this. I have a line of wildcats called 7mm Questor, 8mm Questor, and 9.3mm Questor. All are actually .270 Winchester.

Great, dat's one of me all time favorites.

BTW I tried to get dang near errybody I could think of to do me a Contender barrel once in .358 Graybeard and no dang body would chamber it. It's the same as the .356 Win. but loaded to lower pressures. I asked erry dang TC smith around and no one would make me one.
