I'm just woundering what type of lures and bait you guys use, and brand. I'll being going to texas this winter so I was woundering what you guys use or recommend me to try. thank you

Asa's cat lure works. Havn't tried his k9 lures but I don't remember anyone complaining about them to me. Beaver is always good cat bait. Caven has a bait called Hiawatha valley coyotes seems to like.

If you're gonna buy one lure per species, it is hard to go wrong with the Lenon call alls. I use them with good results. I also like Fur country lures; the Bonazas, mild and super are gun type lures while Wiley Coyote, Tom Cat and Badlands Bob are strong gland type lures. :wink:

Yeppers Lynx ya ruffled his feathers..... last i heard he jumped in his new van and is picking up a new lead thrower to test out...... now last i heard he was on his way to Montana....... Hmmmmm Ya dont look like a prairie dog do ya Lynx.......... :shock:

I would agree with the lure choices everyone has made.I really like Fur Country Home Brew for coyotes.Fur Country bait Doublecross is excellent for cats and coyotes.

Lenons cat lure and all call.Also carmens pros choice and triple threat.
Also a big chunk of beaver meat.

I've had very good, consistent success in this area with the following combinations:
Bait: most Fish-based baits, Caven's Minnesota Valley predator bait, and fresh frozen mice
Lure: Blackie's red ranger, Caven's bobcat gland, and I also used mink gland lure as change up for both species.
I used a lot of mink and fox urine also with good success on both cats and coyotes.
I ran mostly 2-3 sets per location. One was generally a single or double dirthole, at least one was a post-type set, and other was just something completely different like a flat set or whatever I could throw in to be creative. The odd set connected once and awhile...enough to make the 3rd set worthwhile anyway...but seemed like the other two received more action. Interestingly I caught a significant amount of cats in post-type sets. Not much eye-appeal at them whatsover just odors from mink or fox pee.

Scent post sets are deadly on cats! Most trappers don't realize that cats are territorial like canines and marking or rubbing scent posts is in their nature. Also, trappers generally underestimate the cat's smelling ability. I'm sure that a cat doesn't smell as keenly as a canine but past university studies have concluded a cat can smell 25 times better than a human can smell. Considering that I can many times smell a lured set from several feet away on a still frosty morning, imaging smelling 25 times more intensely. I trap in a vast sand and snow country where animal tracks are almost always tell-tale as to how animals have approached, accepted or rejected a set. I don't ever recall seening evidence that a bobcat has ever passed a well presented scent post set without walking right in. Scent post sets are my favorite deep snow sets for fox and coyote and now that we have a bobcat limit here in MI, it is difficult to keep a bobcat away from these sets. Ace :grin:
