Sounds crazy, but....
« on: June 28, 2005, 03:12:35 PM »
I'm thinking of putting a Bushnell 3200 Elite straight 10X power on my Rem. Model 7FS in 7mm-08. Reason being that when I go out paraire dog shootin again next year I want to use this rifle as a third gun. The Optic Zone has them for $174.00 and that's cheaper than a new rifle.
I took this rifle this year on the shoot and had a ball with it using Speer 110gr. HP/TNT's.
Now, mind you it's got the 18-1/2 inch barrel and I have a Leupold VariXIII 2.5X8X36mm on it now. But I need just a litle more glass for the longer shots.
My two primary rifles are a H&R Ultra in 223 and a Bushmaster Varmiter in the same caliber. The H&R has a 2.8X10X44 Simmons and that extra 2 power really made a difference at the longer shots.
I've got plenty of other rifles for deer hunting, a couple of Marlins and a Ruger Compact so I'm not hurting in that area.
What do ya'll Think???

Dennis, the 10x40 Elite 3200 is a darn nice little scope, I just picked up a used one in the classifieds for a darn good price and love it!! It's a little on the shy side of enough power for varmints in my opinion, and it doesn't have an AO, so it may not be as accurate as you like, but it may do for ya. For the money, it's a great scope!! For just a bit more money, you might consider the Mueller Tactical 4-16x50 from Jon at The Optic Zone...

Thanks Tim for the info.
I just looked at the scope you mentioned and I believe it will be a little too big for the little rifle. Also looked at the 3X10X44 Mueller and it looks nice, but still a little large.
I Like the size of the Bushnell which fits the rifle a little better. ( Fits the rifle    I must be nuts for wanting to do this. Mounting a 10X on a compact rifle.)
Plus the little Bushnell has a Mil Dot recticle. And it's a pretty compact scope.
Tim.... Thanks again, I'm gonna give it more thought.

Yeah, I thought about the size too, but the Tactical does have a mildot, that's why I thought of it....10x without an AO may not be whatcha want for a varmint scope, would be fine for a big game scope, though. Haven't shot mine yet to know, so don't give up on it yet cuz of my say so... :-D  Ya might consider the Trophy 4-12x40, bout the same price, weight and size...no mildot though. The Legend has a mildot, but is a couple inches longer...

Tim;

You have been a big help. Always there for someone who needs some advice.
Think I'm gonna go with the Bushnell 10X40 fixed power. As I said it's gonna be a third rifle. Not the main battle rifle if the PD's start to charge   . I've got two scopes without rifles right now, one is a Sightron 2.5X8X42 that was on the Bushmaster Varmiter. And a NEW Tasco 3X9X40 I won at the giveaway out in Oklahoma PD shoot.
Probably gonna order a 7mm-08 barrel for the Ultra and mount one of these scopes on that new barrel.Or as me and hellacatcher has been talking get a 243 Ultra then order the 7mm-08 barrel.
You know those Handi's, they like lighter bullets and I'm hoping that the 7mm-08 barrel likes the Speer 110gr. HP/TNT's.
Thanks for the advice.
