Does any one use 4895 for the 30 06 ?

I have a 30 06 remmy 700 ADL . Have not played with it much. What I have is lots of 150 and 165 grain remington bullets and a nice supply of 4895. I know 4895 will not blow the doors off a chrony. That is ok with me. Have gotten over trying to load highest velocity. Was wondering if anyone is using 4895 and is happy with it. Nothing fancy just nice loads that shoot well and give good groups. I would be happy with nice round 1 1/2 5 shot groups at 100 yards and 3 inch groups at 200 yards. Dont need tackdriver performance. Just nice honest dependable loads.

I use IMR-4895 quite a bit with bullets weighing 150 to 180 grains.  I've never used Hodgdon 4895 so I don't know how it compares with the IMR version.  I use GI cases for some of my loads.  They tend to be heavier and have less capacity than some of the commercial cases so it is really important to stay on the low side of the charge weights with them.   I prefer IMR-4350 with 190 grain bullets and IMR-4831 with 200 grain bullets.

I use use 48.7 grains surplus IMR 4895 and a 150 graian bullet in my Garand and am quiet happy with it.  Never cronied it, but it's below max and shoots well for me.

IMR 4895 was originally developed for the .30-06 and was used almost exclusively in military loads throughout WWII up to the Vietnam War era.

As such, there coutless TONS of have been sold as surplus fore reloading.  It's ideal for the mid-weight 150-165 grain bullets.

As I recall, we used to use 47.5 gns of IMR-4895 under a 180 gn bullet in the 06 for accuracy and some hunting work.  That was the load favored by Garand users with that bullet when I was shooting long range with Garands.  The velocity is right around 2650'/sec, which was the match/sniper load for the 06 with a 177 (?) gn bullet - the ammo was Lake City Match ammo and it is what we used at the time for ranges out to 1K.  Sometime a bit later someone developed the 190 or 193 gn bullet (Sierra I think) which was even more accurate.  HTH.  Mikey.

That is exactly correct.  .30-06 and 4895 is like peanut butter and jelly.   :wink:
