Advice on new pistol
« on: July 05, 2005, 09:04:25 AM »
I am planning to purchase a new target/plinking pistol soon.  I have the ones picked out that I like and feel good to my grip.  They are 1)Ruger Mark II, 2) S/W 22A, 3) Walther P22 and last choice 4) Beretta U22 Neos.  If anyone has feed back are owned one I would like some advice.  Thanks

I have the MK2  5.5" bull barrel and find it a great gun. They are discontinued and will be hard to find soon as the MK3 is not going well. While I have a MK1 tapered target, the preferred gun is a S&W 617 10 shot.

brian:

I own several Rugers and a 22A...and each serves a different purpose.

All of my .22 handguns are a lot of fun to shoot although the Rugers tend to be more reliable and less picky about ammo...especially picnic shells if your planning to roll tin cans.  Rugers are also more accurate IMHO.

My 22A seems to like low-velocity (Wolfe and Rem SubSonics) ammo best which tends to get a bit pricy for plinking, but it is a bit lighter than the Rugers and I tend to shoot it longer as a result.   The 22A is not as accurate in my hands...and it requires more TLC (cleaning/lubrication).

Walthers and Neos...don't own any but I've handled them a few times in the gun shop.  Got the urge to buy a Neo a while back but most of the reviews/commentary on this board and in the mags was less than stellar...so I bought a .357 instead  .

Anyway, let us know what you end up with and how you like it.

Good Luck and Be Safe!  ...Chris   :D

The Browning Buckmarks are a very good choice. Better than any you listed and very reasonably priced.
