I am new here too and have a few questions.

Scott Rupp recommended I buy an Encore or Contender so I can switch back and forth between .223 and .308.  I understand the pressure variances and such on Contender vs Encore barrels but isn't the frame exactly the same or just close.  The barrels are not interchangeable from Contender to Encore are they?

On the Encore, can you switch from handgun to rifle simply by changing the stock and barrell?

The Contender cannot handle the breech thrust of the .308, so to be able to use both barrels on the same frame you'll have to get an Encore.   There is a major difference between the two frames in size and strength.  The G2 Contender and the "old" Contender have ca. the same strengths and can interchange barrels.  Not so with the Encore.

Stocks are available to change the Contender into a rifle also.

when you buy one make sure you buy it as a handgun, then you will be able to turn in to a rifle any time you feel like it but if you buy it as a rifle it will all ways have to be a rifle.

since you want a 308 round you will have to get an encore.

I would say get the Encore, for one you cannot get the contender in .308. As suggested, order the Encore frame as a pistol setup and then purchase the rifle stock and forearm. Or if you have a pistol or rifle caliber you want in a pistol length, order it first.  :D
