I live in a shotgun only zone of the state. I currently have a smoothbore shotgun that doesn't shoot slug loads too consistently. This year I have been looking to get a muzzleloader to hunt whitetails but am torn between two options. The Boss, aka my wife, says I have $500 to spend, so I'm torn between getting a T/C omega or a NEF Sidekick and a H&R ultra slug hunter, since both would be around the same price. Not knowing a ton about muzzleloaders, could someone please help to sway my decision? Thanks!

I would pick up a rifled pump shotgun. You can easily get those for under $500. You have more than one shot and no need to worry about cleaning the gun like a ML.

The Omega would be my choice of the ones you offered. You may want to look at the Encore also. I am sure you can get a used one at a good deal and still have enough money to get other things.

Get the NEF ultra slug hunter. Then send in the action to NEF to have a Huntsman muzzleloader barrel fitted. I did this a couple of years ago to the tune of about $250. I am still stunned by the accuracy of my (then)
$70 .50 cal. barrel....

I'll make this short and sweet. Omega all the way. Easy to clean, maintain, and accuracy is excellent! Just my .02
