Finally shot my .375 Winchester!
« on: July 20, 2005, 01:56:39 PM »
I took my .375 Contender 21" carbine out yesterday, mainly to chrono some loads I'd worked up with Reloader 7 behind 200gr Sierra FN bullets.  The gun turned out to be fairly accurate with all loads, averaging less than 2" with everything I tried.  Actually, 35gr of Re 7 averaged around 1" and 2000+ fps.  I went all the way to the max load of 38.5gr, which gave me around 2" and 2200fps and zero signs of excessive pressure.  I'm positive the load was more accurate than that, but I the recoil had started getting to me just a bit.  The .375 is a pretty stout round in a 5.5lb gun, so I really can't imagine what it would be like in a 14" pistol!

Next, I plan on trying a 235gr Hornady, so wish my shoulder luck!

Sounds Awsome Jason!
If your gonna be doing a lot of shooting of that bad-boy, try a "sissy bag".  It's a sandbag filled with lightweight material like uncooked rice or plastic pellets (or you can use sand).  It's about 5"X 7" and fits between your shoulder and the gun butt.  It helps distribute the recoil for load testing.  Helps  T R E M E N D O U S L Y ! !
(Just don't tell your buddy's what the name is.......)
Also remember to clean your barrel every 5 rounds or so untill it's broken in good (about 100 rounds) to keep the copper fouling down and accuracy up.  Also remember to keep the barrel cool.  That helps in accuracy too.
