Just Picked up 2 bottles of IMR Trailboss
« on: July 06, 2005, 10:18:50 AM »
Just picked up two bottles (total 18 oz - only 9 oz. per bottle).  Cost was just under $12.00 per bottle, so it's about 62% more expensive than tite-group (which I was using).  Hope it's worth it.

Anyways, does anyone have any experience with this powder yet?  It recommends a low of 5.5 grains for a 200grain LRN cast (.45 Colt) .  Has anyone gone lower/higher?  At 5.5gr, it takes up about 70% of my shell capacity.  Powder takes up a lot of volume. Any higher, and I would have to use my rifle powder bar on my Dillon 550.

Will give the 5.5gr loads a try this weekend at a Cowboy Shoot.

Can't find it to try it locally, but have heard nothing but good about it on the various boards.I would sure think the fuller the case the better the burn.
Let us know what ya think.

Yup that be the load to start with.. I have only run about 25 rounds thru my six guns with the 5.5 and 200gr cast FPRN and it is great to shoot.  Was using 5.5 of W231 behind a 230 gr cast bullet and always had to double check to the powder levels as a double charge would be easy to miss till ya pulled the trigger    I shoot 45LC in my 1873 Uberti's.

The trail boss is really nice ta shoot, fills the case well (a double charge would most likely over flow the case and be easy ta spot even fer me) and has a nice feel to the recoil (not to hard/not too soft).

Load some up and have some fun....

Well, I loaded 300 rounds with 5.5 grains for my Son and I to use this Sunday at a NCOWs shoot just outside Lincoln NE.

About the availability - Scheels here in Omaha just got it in last week for the first time.  Only 3 bottles, of which I grabbed 2.  According to IMR, it should be everywhere by this summer.  They better hurry, before they miss the Cowboy Action Shooting season this year, and on the sales (for those of us who have to suffer with a winter!)

Will give my opinion after the shoot!
