PMP 223 Ammo...WOW!
« on: July 09, 2005, 06:06:00 PM »
I bought some PMP 223 ammo at the gun store yesterday. Half of a case. (500rnds.)
My AR-15 shoots this stuff really good so I decided to get all he had. Decided to try it in my 223 Ultra Varmit.
Man did this stuff shoot great!  1 inch or less for five shots at 100yds. Did this several times. Then I decided to try a 10 shot group, shot 3 times then let it set for a while. Those 3 were all touching, then proceeded to shoot the remaining 7 shots with no cooling. The group was right at 1-1/2 inches for the total 10 shots. That little rifle shot better today than it ever has at the range. And POI was dead on at 100 where the Win White box 45 grainers are sighted for 1-1/2 inches high at 100. So no scope adjustments were needed.
For the price, this is some great target shooting ammo.
I think I save the remaining ammo to shoot JUST out of the Ultra.
It's as accurate or more accurate than the White Box.
Boy, was it fun today.  :grin:

Tim;

I'm sorry, I did not say what it was.
It's the 55 grain FMJ/BT.
This is the first FMJ's I've shot that was anywhere near accurate.
I don't know, it just seems like shooting a new rifle with this stuff.
Kinda feel guilty shooting at paper with the Win 45 JHP's.

When I had my 22" bull .223, it would shoot the UMC 55gr. FMJ's better than the Winnys too. It was cheap range shooting at $2.69 per 20. I even thought about entering the postal match last year with the stuff. Wonder what it is about the FMJ's and the .223's?

My Ultra like those UMC 55gr as well. Inch and under with them at 120 yards at my bench. But it won't shoot worth a crap with those 55gr FMJ Winchesters.....now the 45gr WWB is another story.
I wonder if they use different powder in the 55gr WWB FMJ's?

It goes to show how different each rifle is.  My.223 does not do well at all with the UMC 55 fmj.  I use them for foulers and to harvest the RP brass.

I bought a case of American Eagle 55gr FMJ for my ultra shot pretty good at 50 yds but at a 100 there would be two touching and a flier as much as a couple of inches. Loves the 40gr hornady BTs, have a white box of 45gr winchester that I will try soon.
