So many different cartridges and so few shooters.

We have so many choices and so few shooters that there is not that much competition with each cartridge.  How about reducing the choices of cartridges for each Match.   Say, have a “Postal Match” every 2 months (or any time-frame) but for only one class of gun.  Then if we had only had say 10 shooters all would be shooting in the same group.

For instance as follows:

VARMIT SHOOTOUT   using only (204 Ruger, 22 Hornet, 22-250 Rem, 223 Rem, 243 Win).

RIMFIRE SHOOTOUT   using only (17 HM2, 17 HMR, 22 LR, 22 MAG).

HANDGUN CARTRIDGE SHOOTOUT   using only (38 Special, 357 Mag, 44 Special, 44 Mag, 500 S&W, and re-chambers of same, 357 MAX, 360 DW, 445 Supermag and the like).

MID-BORE SHOOTOUT   using only (25-06 Rem, 270 Win, 280 Rem, 7mm-08 Rem).

30 CALIBER SHOOTOUT   using only (308 Win, 30-06, 30-30 Win).

OLD-TIMERS SHOOTOUT   using only (45-70 and 38-55).

SHOTGUN SLUG SHOOTOUT   using only (H&R or NEF guns).

Just a thought to maybe get more shooters and competition.

Sounds like a plan, but I'd leave the 17hmr and 17M2 at 100yds, most all will shoot circles around their .22 kin....it's a rare 22 that will compete with a .17 anything.

I like the idea of splitting the classes up.

How about shooting ten shots for score?  We could use a commonly available target or I'd be happy to post one of mine for download.

We could shoot some calibers at 200, some at 100 and maybe .22 rimfire and shotgun slug at 50.

I'd be happy to help with the program if anyone is interested.

I know this is not the common mind set, but my 22mag has been out shooting the 17 hmr's at the 100 yrd range.  I would like to see the 22mag out to 100 yards.

Bob, good point on the .22 mag and the .17's.  They should all be at 100 and the .22 LR at 50?

I was thinking:  As above, + All cast bullet loads at 100 regardless of caliber.  All 30-30, .44, .357, 45-70 and (suggestions here)? at 100.  All others at 200.

There is quite a few of us that doesn't have a 200 yard range around. i would like to see them left at 100 yards.

But i like the idea of splitting it into classes. Maybe we could do a caliber a month.....or every 2 months........ex. 223 shoot for january, 243 shoot for feburary

I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Yeah, you're right not everybody has a 200 yard range.  Best stay at 100.
