I need a 243 bad! Whatda think!

Went shooting with hellacatcher a couple of weeks ago. We were talking aboout  how he had the red mist effect on pariare dogs when we were out in OK. I used my 7mm-08 in Rem Mod. 7FS w/ 18-1/2 inch barrel, with excellent results. Though I just chronoed my load, a 110gr. HP/TNT and was only getting 2750fps out of the little rifle.
So.... I'm thinking of the Ultra Varmit in 243, for them PD's.
What do ya'll think?
I know Paul really liked his, the 243 Ultra.
And I don't want a 204, because I'll have to buy another cleaning rod and other 20 cal. equipment.

I would say go for it. I'm thinking of adding the 243 ultra to my frame. All i have now is the 44mag and 223. I want something that is legal to hunt deer with but i can use on varmints too. I think the 243 really fits the bill.

You have the same barrels as I do, the 223 and 44mag.
I'm thinking of another frame, cause one frame for 3 barrels seems a bit to much. Also, went shootin, and wanted to shoot both barrels but when one gets warm don't want to remove it and put on the other barrel, although I've done it a few times.

 I am wanting another, don't know what I want, 204 or 223,
   complete rifle to shot at next P D shoot, so I can let 219 Zip cool.

next time we need to shoot together more . if you would see one vaporize in the scope with that thing you wouldn't stop talking about it until you got one. as for a 243, well heck yeah you need one of them too  i did some spotting for john while we were out there and with his 243 it looked like they ate a hand grenade!

Yeah, I think I'll get the 243 Ultra Varmit. I want the 24 inch barrel and the laminated stocks.
But I'm definitley getting the 7mm-08 barrel on the coupon program.
Even though it's a 22 inch barrel, I want to see if I can get those Speer 110gr. HP/TNT's to shoot in a Handi barrel. I really liked those bullets on pararie dogs out west. If I can't get them to shoot in the barrel I can go back to the 243 barrel.
I've already got the scope for the rifle. Just ordered a Bushnell Elite 3200 10X40 fixed power w/ a mil-dot from the Optic Zone. Man, what a nice scope, and a lot of eye relief. Won't be buying any more Leupolds. This scope is a beauty.

One of the things I did not like about the 243 was in a PD field it just burns too much powder, buy the time you multiply it by 300 or 500 there is a significant price difference between that and a .223. and 243 does not really out perform the centerfire 22's till after 300 yards and @ 300 you need groups pushing or under .5" @ 100 to reliably hit a PD.

But if it floats your boat it sure does mistify them good, but you do need to try a 204 it does a good job too, and if you are already sending in for a new barrel whats one more :-) .
