Hunter Pistol Championships
« on: July 12, 2005, 03:27:09 PM »
MarylandÂ’s, Hal Simpkins roared back on Tuesday at the NRA National Hunter Pistol Championships and grabbed daily honors in the Hunter Pistol Scoped match by firing a 57 out of 60 to add to his 55 fired the previous day to total  a 112 Aggregate. The 112 gave Simpkins the National Crown over Virginians, Aubrey and Rich Adcock. Aubrey Adcock, RichÂ’s father was leading after day one with a 57, but only came up with a 52 on day two for a 109 Aggregate. This left the door open for Simpkins to slip through. The drama didnÂ’t end there however, AdcockÂ’s son Rich also from Virginia shot an outstanding 56 to come out of the pack after only having a 53 on day one. With the Aggregate score tied at 109, a tie breaking shootoff was needed to determine second and third. The elder Adcock however triumphed over the younger, to claim the Runnerup honors leaving, leaving Rich with third open.

In the Open sight Match, Texan Preston Gibson didnÂ’t let the pressure of leading after day one effect him at all. Gibson, improved his day one score of 51 by two to finish the second day with a 53, a 104 Aggregate and the Championship crown. Finishing, in second after a three way shootoff was OhioÂ’s Jim Kesser. Kesser had 50 on day one and had a 48 on day two for a total of 98. Kesser defeated BradfordÂ’s Rob Drummond, and Aubrey Adcock.  Drummond however, bested Adcock for third Open. DrummondÂ’s finished day two with a 47 in additiona to his day one score of 51.

The McKean County Rifle Club team of  Drummond, Dale Drummond and Jim Schmader took first in Scoped AAA class three man team event. Overall Scoped team winners were the Ram Roller team from Virginia.

The Smallbore Scoped and Opensight competetition will continue on Wednesday and Thursday, starting at 8 am. The public is invited.

Great report AMB. We'd appreciate the small bore standings too. Thanks again.

I'll be at your range on Sat. & Sun. for the regionals. See you then.
