i was told that if sweet 7.62 and hoppes no.9 get mixed in the barrel it can be extremely corrosive..is this true??

assuming this is true if i used hoppes to clean the barrel..then dry patch really good then use sweets for copper..then dry patch really good..then a light coat of rem-oil that should be ok right??

I have used #9 to follow sweets, butch's, and Iosso paste for years and I clean my guns numerous times each year, and I have never had any problems with anything like that. That said, I wouldn't dump 'em in the same bottle and shake it or anything, but barrel eaters no way! And bore cleaners are like calibers, everyone says theirs is the best, beware the snake oil salesman.

I wouldn't recommend mixing any 2 bore solvents in a bore, you never know what kind of chemical concoction you will end up with and the risk of damage to the bore is certainly not worth it. I have read the Sweets and Shooters Choice is a bad combination, but other than those specific 2, I don't know.

I'm just repeating something I've read over the years but I do keep up with this subject and have seen several times that Shooter's Choice should not be mixed with other solvents. Now, lots of people say they use SC mixed with Kroil but I consider Kroil a penetrating oil and not a dedicated guncleaning solvent, certainly not a copper solvent. FWIW.

I think there is no need to use either of em since WipeOut or Outers forming bore cleaners work better than either of em and I used to love Hoppes!!! :lol:

well i got some sweets today along with a dewey rod and a brass jag for my 270 and 308 so i could polish them when they get here from the factory...i got the sweets because someone said it was the best bore cleaner for removing copper during barrel break in to make sure you get the bore good and clean...i have a .17hmr that i never broke in either so i know i am going to need to sweets to get the copper out of that bore...i have used patchworm on the 17 but i know it doesn;t take out everything....i guess to be safe i will use hoppes to get out the fouling and stuff..then dry patch it good before using the sweets just to be sure they don;t mix..then when it doesn;t come out blue anymore i will dry patch until dry and light oil...

The brass jag is ok for regular cleaning...but you will want to pick up an Outers plastic patch holder...and Tennax nylon type brushes to work with any of the stronger cleaning agents...especially the ammonia based types...in paticular the Barnes CR-10...

I have been told not to use bronze brushes or jags with any ammonia based cleaners..so I don't..I don't use Sweets...but as far as I know..it is a ammonia based copper remover...

Simple...get the Outers Tennax brushes...and the plastic loop type tips for your patches...

anyone heard of the patchworm? i think i could use that for the sweets and the jags for hoppes and stuff like that....the sweets shouldn;t affect the patchworm i wouldn;t think

It will work with anything, even to lap the bore, it's all I use on my 17hmrs and 204 Ruger.

I use BMG 50 for removing stubborn fowling and copper. It is made by Montana Extreme.

I have used many copper removers and this is the best. In fact 'Gun Tests' magazine gave it the highest rating of all the ones it tested. And, for such a potent copper remover, it is safe to leave it in the barrel. Sweets is definitely not, or so i am told.
