My SS 45 colt 5.5 barrel Blackhawk just had major organ transplant surgery. It's part Blackhawk and part Super Blackhawk.  Super Blackhawk hammer and 44 mag non-fluted cylinder linebored to 45 colt and fitted. Had the barrel warning removed and complete pistol matte finished.  What do you call such a thing!

I did not reply to the first post as I am one of those guys that hate to see a good clean Ruger single action modified.  However, I will reply now.  I see that photo and your words just don't do that firearm justice.   Gives me a woody just thinking about how it would look and feel in person.   Looks almost like a Freedom Arms, and if properly built, probably shoots like one.

WELL DONE!  Enjoy that Superhawk!!

Steve P.

I can relate to your feelings about mods. I stewed on this decision for years before I pulled the trigger. Mainly because you just don't see to many SS 45 colt Blackhawks with a factory 5.5 barrel length. But the cylinder was sloppy even after adding a belt mountain oversize cylinder pin. It spit lead and accuracy was bla bla. Not to mention that the standard Blackhawk hammer spur was a complete turd. I added a close up of the new hammer. The cylinder is now snug, gap is much tighter, and no more spitting.  First range trip I just had few 300 grain cast @ 1050 fps laying around. The few cylinder full that I did shoot, I easily packed into a half dollar size group @ 35 yards without hardly trying. I would say it was worth the investment.

Since it shoots 300 grain loads in comparison with the looks, it is definitely a carrier.

Once again, enjoy that Superhawk!!

P.S.  I going to steal a copy of your photos.  Someday I may get a sloppy one and may have to 'fix it' also.  Wahoo!

I didn't pay much attention to this thread till I saw you mention it in the thread above. Did you send the gun to both Bowen and Clements? This has got me thinking about a SBH I bought at a pawn shop, doesn't shoot all that great and is just taking up space in the safe. Add to that I love the 45 Colt. Hmmmm..

Sort of. When I first bought my Blackhawk, I had trouble sighting in with 300 grain cast bullets.  I sent it to Bowen to have a Bowen rear and new front sight installed to match my handloads. That had to be 8-10 years ago. Couldn't afford to have anything else done at the time. I wasn't aware of Dave Clements at that time or if he was even in business. Before deciding on what work I wanted done this time, I talked with Dave Clements , checked customer comments on various forums, and viewed pictures of his work. Plus, I liked his concept of lineboring the cylinder. Just seems like every ounce of detail can't hurt. Originally my Blackhawk shot like crap. The cylinder was loose/shakey and spit from the forcing cone. Shoots like a dream now. Everything is nice and tight including the cylinder alignment and gap.
