Well she's 18 and beautiful...OH wait thats who I admire :-D
hehe really though i got my NEF .17HMR Sportster. Picked up a brick of Remington A-max .17grs. I've cleaned it and i have a Weaver 2.5-7 to test with and an O-ring to use should i need it. I do not have a trigger gauge but it feels VERY light maybe a 1lb if not less, its much less than my .308. and consistant. Just how many rnds will it likely take to break-in and what tinkering would most likely be needed? Aside from loc-titeing.

Congrats!!! I hate ta tell, ya, but buying a brick of any one ammo, specially the rem may be a futile move. I'd recommend you take that back if you can and just buy a box of each kind they have or one or two different loads and try em to find out what shoots best. The hornady traditionally shoot best, but the federals are a runner up along with the CCI Vmax. After lapping the bore per the sticky in the Centerfire forum, you can expect it to take a box or 2 before it shoots the best. You may also find that once it breaks in, it will show a change of preference to what shoots best....I have 4 Hmrs including a Sportster and none of em shoot the rem very well, at all. And FWIW, the rem is labeled as V-max Boat tail or AccuTip-V™, both being the hornady V-max bullet with a gold tip...Not A-max!!

yes i know its V-max i was just too lazy :) to change it :P. I merely bought the Rem cause its all i could get at the moment and for the break-in period, then i'll do so with each type.

In my experience with the 17hmr, a brick is way more than you'll need for break in, specially after lapping the bore. You more than likely will be stuck with a bunch of ammo that is less accurate than you like.

No, it will just take longer to get the best accuracy out of it if you don't....at $8-$10 a box, it makes more sense to have quality shooting sooner if you can.
Figure 150-300 rounds before the barrel is broke in if you don't lap it first.
Also, due to the rough bore, you'll get more copper fouling when it's new without the lapping, which affects accuracy, too.

ok is my said method the way?? Lapping it will reduce rnds to break-in and fouling reduction.
