Author Topic: Scope mounting problem with T'SOB rings (Read 418 times)

The T'SOB rings on my 6.5 are too big for my Burris 1.5-4 and Burris 2x scopes. Not much, but enough that the scope is loose. How can I tighten it up? Can a person tape the inside of the rings without fear of the scope eventually sliding from the recoil? What kind of tape do you recommend or do I need new rings?
I don't want to buy new rings if I can help it.

Never saw that before. If you got them from JD give him a call and hell make it right. If you dont want to do that the best thing to use is lead tape. You can find it at places that sell stuff for fly-fishing. You can also the lead foil that is on the tops of wine bottles. You want to use enough tape that you get a light crush fit. You want to make sure that the top ring is butted up to the bottom half.

Nothing is wrong with the rings.
The probelm is that the Burris scope tube is undersized. If you measure it O.D. of the scope tube it will be under one inch!!!
I have two Burris 3x12's and I had the same problem and they measure .990 inches. I had a friend measure his and .990
I ended uo stopping at the local Gander Mountain store and the gunsmith gave me several Burris friction paper strips which I put on the inside of the rings. Worked fine!!!

The same thing happened to my 2x7 burris on my 454 SRH. It seemed to tighten down fine until the recoil made it slide. I wound up having my rings milled down a few thousanths so there would be a gap after they were tightened up. The gunsmith who did the machine work also gave me some strips (neoprene i think) to go in between. I havent had a problem since.
