California, Here I come ...

NO!!!!!!!!   I am NOT moving there !!!!!!

I'm leaving this coming Saturday to spend two weeks in sunny Los Angeles for some training for my job.

Yeah ... I am soooooooooo excited .... and if you belive that, I got some beach-front property here in Montana I'll sell ya.

Anyone got any advice for "Redneck Jerry" and his adventure to the land of fruits and nuts?  (No offense to those who are from the land of fruits and nuts   )

Redneck Jerry Goes to Hollywood.  Sounds like a good b-movie.

MtJerry
I would offer some advise but being an Arkansas redneck that would be
like one liberal telling another how not to lie!  :)

I travel & go to sales meetings quite a bit but I am only comfortable in
the more rural red states like yours or mine.  :D

Wear Red and let us know when you arrive and the vehicle you are driving.

That is indeed a real problem for me ... if can't handle, or read something about a Handi Rifle once or twice a day, I start to shake ....

Good Luck Redneck Jerry.  I'm flying into SanDiego for a wedding next Friday    (Not mine, though)   As soon as I can get out of San Diego I'm going to travel through LA and drive up Hwy. 1 to San Fransico.  I hope to get in & out of LA ASAP.  After a day or so in San Fran ( I want to visit Alcatraz) I'm planning to drive to Yosemite, Sierras, etc. and cruise around a couple of days before heading to Reno and flying back home.

I just visited packing.ord to check out CA weapon laws.  Looks like you can carry a concealed folding knife if it's not a switchblade and not left unfolded; but you have to have a fixed blade knife in open carry - not concealed.  I plan to take a fixed blade knife with me to carry while hiking in Yosemite.  So, I'm going to be sure to put a lock on my suitcase so if I'm caught with it in San Diego or  San Fran, at least I will have it in a locked case.

That reminds me of a joke about what you do if you drop a quarter in San Francisco.   :P

I can't imagine what there is worth seeing in LA but try to experience something you couldn't in your home territory.  Try to make the best of it.

If you drop a quarter in San Francisco, let it lay there!  No joke ....  :)

I will completing a training program with a local company there and will only have one afternoon off the whole two weeks.  Won't be much time for sightseeing.

Beware MtJerry, for you are a pilgrim in an unholy land. You must cleanse yourself of the Kalipornia scunge with the smell of burnt powder, the echo of a handi rifle, and a tiny cluster of holes in a bullseye as soon as you return. this, and only this will purge you of your kalipornia uncleanness. Seriously, travel safe bro, and come home in one piece. We're not in Arkansas anymore toto!

That is by far the best advice I have received!!!!!!   :)

I will do just that upon my return my handi-haulic brother ... howeve, my 45-70 won't make a "tiny cluster of holes."

Where exactly in L.A. are you staying? L.A. covers a lot of area and there are a lot of cities within L.A.'s boundaries. Some are OK, but there are areas I wouldn't venture out at night without a big stick. I moved out of So Cal to get away from the wackos in Sacramento. I'm a lot happier in Utah where people don't look at you cross-eyed just because you like firearms.

Maybe I'll stop by Wal-Mart when I get there and see if I can find one  :)

Wearing red is OK if you are in the right neighbor hood, if you are in the wrong neighbor hood, try blue.
If you are staying at the air port, you will need a car to see anything. Their rapid transit leaves a lot to be desired. Avoid driving between 4:00 P.M. and about 6:30 P.M.
The above are just a few of the reasons that after 50+ years of living in S. Ca., that I now live in East Texas.
 Have a good trip.

I'm from the land of fruits and nuts, even the LA area. Whittier to be exact. I also lived in Long Beach for many years.  Be careful, there are good areas and bad. When you go out, only take enough money for your meals and what you plan to spend. If  you get robbed, you can go back   and get  more money.

If you have time, you can visit down town. There is an indoor market with lots of vendors. I wish I knew where you were staying, I could maybe give you better insight.

It's an interesting place, but I wouldn't go back there if I didn't have to.
Ohhhh, I hate when that happens

Well, if you have access to a car, take the 105 freeway to the south of the airport east to the 710 freeway. Take that south till it ends in Long Beach. You will have not problem finding the beach. Don't hang around there at night though. It becomes a rough area when the sun goes down. But around the airport, there are only bars and such. I don't drink, so that doesn't interest me. But maybe you'll find some entertainment there.

As I recall there are some pretty good restuarants on Imperiel highway there. Anyway, have fun.
