Lyman GPR .54/.50 barrels interchange?
« on: July 25, 2005, 01:56:04 PM »
I have a GPR .50.

Also want a GPH .54 barrel.

Will the barrels interchange on the same stock/action?

I know the TC 50/54 Hawken won't interchange as the two barrels are different widths.

Best wishes,  Harold

When you put that 54 barrel on, try 70 grains of 3f goex with a prb.  Never has heaven seemed closer than shootin this load.  If you are not getting 2" at 50 yds, patch thickness is usually the problem.

Yes, they are both 15/16" across the flats and will interchange fine.
Do it outdoors!!

crow feather,

He said he was wanting a .54cal Great Plains Hunter barrel.  With it's fast twist, it probably won't shoot roundballs worth a hoot.

I haven't tried 3f in my .54 GPR but 70 grains of 2f, behind a .535 ball and .018 ticking patch lubed with moosemilk has always been one of my favorite target loads.

Oops! missed that "H" didn't I.

If you get a chance, just try 70 grs of 3f instead of 2f.  Flys faster, and is as, or more accurate, at least in my 54's
