Author Topic: NEF .223 range report with 64 gr bullets (Read 1244 times)

Even though it was hotter than the fires of .... outside Me and Jerkface went to the range with My new .223 survivor that I traded his brother a howa model 1500 for.
Anyway i had 4 of the 64 grain power points that jerkface had mentioned in an earlier post and they shoot good in this rifle too the very sweaty 3 shot group i managed to print came out to 1.125' compared to the 1.9' of the winchester whitebox 55 grainers so apparently this gun will shoot them too I expect even better performance on a day i can stand to sit there and take my time.
The .308 barrel i got with it looks promising too even though all i had was a BSA red dot it still shot well within minute of deer. And it does NOT like wolf ammo they shoot fine but won't eject.
The .223 wouldn't eject winchester 5.56x45 ammo either.

Oh yeah i forgot i also really lucked out and found 50 rounds of federal gold medal .223 brass with the boxes that someone had left at the range!! yay

I did like it, but there wasn't enough information to work with. Tell us more about what the bullet is and what the load is, 'cause I'm not familiar with this 64 gr bullet.

The next bullets I'm gonna try are gonna be some 69gr hornadys. I plan on going up in bullet weights untill I get keyholes just to find out what these rifles will shoot.

Hmmm, there's a lot of similarity in appearance of the win 64gr and the sierra 63gr which is made for the 1:12" twist rate...

I went to the range the other day for the first time in ages and decided to shoot my Synthetic Superlight. My shooting was not very good, I would get two shots within an inch of each other and 3rd would be away so that it looked like I was doing 2" groups of 3 shots using Winchester 55 grain.

When I decided to pack it in but found 3 Silver Bear 62 grain Hollow points. My barrel was fairly warm to almost hot at that point and I fired these 3 pretty close to as fast as I could load them. Oddly, they print about 2" groups or less and the same as my suppsedly carefully aimed and spaced shots with the Winchester. The Handi would not eject any of the Silver Bears and I had to poke each of the three out of the barrel. I was very surprised that these shot as well as the Winchesters.

I guess I hadn't paid too much attention to those bullets, since I didn't see anything with them like this note for the 60 gr V-Max.

I'm getting old and forgetful. I had completely forgotten about that thread. I think I have bought a couple hundred more 60 gr V-Max since that also. It's only money! :roll:
