Fairbanks motels. Need one w/meat cooler
« on: July 23, 2005, 03:51:10 AM »
Could anyone recommend a motel in, or very near Fairbanks? I am looking for one with meat cooler w/overnight storage for a couple of coleman coolers or perhaps 2 fish boxes. Not looking for a 5 star, rather just a warm bed, and a cooler for meat.

I know that seeking out a butcher shop for overnight storage is the obvious answer, but if I could find a motel that could cater to my needs, it would be one less errand I have to run.

Thanks

have you tried the Chamber of Commerce?

I dan't make any recommendations but short term fish storage is a pretty common request.  I would think if you checked out the Fairbanks Chamber website they might be able to help.  A pretty nice hotel is Pike's Landing, and Sophie's Station you might try them. This time of year much of Alaska lodging is pricey due to the tourists.  You might also consider bed and breakfasts too.  Wish I could help more.  Good luck.

I'll check around and see what I can find out about Hotels or Motels with coolers.  My son works at Pikes, I'll ask him about their capabilities.  I do know BY Farms does meat cutting and cold storage.  They are on the Richardson Highway, just out of town.  Between Fairbanks and North Pole.

When you come up are you driving?  When will you be here?  Are you bring a camper, or motorhome?  Don't mean to be nosiy, but if I had some info I might be able to make recommendations about where to stay.  Rog

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

some links to try

Here are some links I found off the Fairbanks and North Pole Chambers.  I see the "Taste of Alaska Lodge" - where I stayed at someone else's expense - VERY nice.  But there are quite a few here to check out.  Good luck.

Note, the North Pole list includes some lodging along the Richardson Highway all the way south to Valdez so look carefully at the address to be sure you are making arrangements for the right place.

Sourdough,

Originaly I was gonna drive up, and do the the camping. but my plans have changed now and I am flying up & back outta Fairbanks. I get up there in early Sept and depart in late Sept. I suspect that late Sept temps would alow for outside meat storage, but I dont want to do that for obvious reasons. Thanks for doing some checking around as well. I toured Pikes website and it sure looks like a very nice place. Almost too high class for this redneck, haha. I will call them first tho. After 10 days in the bush, I will not mind treating myself to a luxury.

Dand,

Wow, awesome links you gave! That is far better than the info I came up with. I will be getting on the phone soon. I never would have thought to check the chamber of commerce. With all those places to pick from, I would think finding ones with modest meat storge should not be a problem.

Much appreciated fellas. Very helpful.

Them Alaska boys are great people.  I had nothing but a great experience when I was there last year. I can't wait to go back next year for Caribou again.  :D
