Anyone know where to get a Thompson handgun barrel (Encore or Contender) in a .25 WSSM?  Seems like a perfect Texas hill country whitetail caliber as the distances are relatively short and the deer are small.  Thanks for any comments or information.

Sorry for the double post.  Didn't think the other one went through.

FWIW The WSM family of cases is not suited for the Encore & would be pure disaster in the Contender.  You can put one in a Encore but will not be able to run it to the pressures it was designed for because of a large area of backthrust on the frame.  A number of the 25's will give you the same performance as the 25 WSSM can without the problems.  It is a great case design, but not for TC products.

Hey,thanks for the response.  That helps a bunch.  I'll probably just go to the 25-06 as it has similar ballistics.  I'm really looking forward to my first TC pistol.  Thanks again.

Charlie,
Your welcome.
The Encore is what you will want for the higher pressure cartridges like the 25-06.  Depending on the ranges for deer the 250 sav, 250 Sav. AI, 257 Rob, 257 AI, 25 Souper (25-08), and the 25-284 are also options, especially if you reload.
If shots are going to be under 250 yards you wouldn't need to go to an 06 capacity cartridge, but it would sure shoot flat and hit hard.
A 15 inch Encore 25-06 barrel will have the performance of what you would get with a 25 x 308 in a rifle.  Another way of saying it is that you will shoot around 250-300 FPS slower in a handgun barrel over a rifle length barrel in the 25-06

While still mulling this over, I may go with the rifle in a long barrel.  Not sure exactly what I'll do (part of the fun of the whole process).  If I go with a pistol I'm pretty sure I'll back off the big cartridges.  The deer around here are usually shot at 75 yds. or less.  Pretty heavily wooded until you get more toward South Texas.  Thanks for the info.

7mm-08 makes a good Encore pistol round with very good accuracy............

7mm-08 is another serious consideration.  Fine cartridge, lots of good rep. and it's not a custom barrel so should be a little less expensive.  Thanks for reminding me.
