hello everyone, I'm new to the forum as well to the handgun world. I was given a springfield 1911A1 for christmas from my dad and i would like to buy a vertical shoulder holster for it. It seems as though Uncle Mike's makes a wide variety of them but i have no idea what size will fit my gun. It probably seems like a stupid question but i just cant figure it out.  Its a 5" barrel.  I think thats a size 2 but im not 100% sure. Can anyone help me?

Springfield - get a holster for a 1911A1 Government Model and you should be all set.  Your 5" pistol is the Government Model.  You may wish to consider one of the Uncle Mike's rigs with a spare magazine carrier on the opposite side of the holster to off-set the weight of the fully loaded 45.  HTH.  Mikey.

If Uncle Mikes doesn't sell one specifically for the Government 45, just about any of the large frame pistol holsters should do but look for one for the Gov't 45 ( means 5" bbl).  HTH.  Mikey.

Springfield, I have a Uncle Mike's belt holster, Size 2, and it fits my Champion just fine, but my 5" full size does not fit right. Mine is one of the heavy fabric type and is stiff so that might be a factor, but based on mine, I wouldn't think a Size 2 is correct for the full size.

hey pard
uncle mikes says that the size 5 holster is made for full sized 1911 with 5inch barrels
with that said i have found that some holsters fit guns that they are not made for just fine
best thing to do is take your gun to your local gunshop and try it in a few to see what fits to your liking
